Boycott on Capitol St.: The non-issue that will not die

The shop where I work is, as I write this, being boycotted by a single moron carrying a flag on a tree branch and a sign that says BOYCOTT. Why are we being boycotted by a moron with a flag on a stick? Because we do business in Jackson, Mississippi and we only fly the U.S. flag and not the State flag.

The flag issue has been debated to death here on the SDMB and even more so here in Mississippi. I DO NOT wish to revive this particular debate, because I for one have no strong feelings about the flag to begin with. I pledge allegiance to flag of the United States of America, not the Mississippi flag. Mississippians earlier this year voted overwhelmingly to keep the state flag which has the stars and bars in the corner. Whatever. The state flag could be jet black with a yellow smiley face in the middle for all I care. I am a native of this state, but I certainly don’t take pride in the alleged heritage that the flag represents… Ooops, I almost got off on a rant there.

Anyway, if you find yourself on historic Capitol St. amidst the bucolic urban splendor of downtown Jackson, MS this afternoon, look for the redneck with a flag on a stick. Come on in the shop, take your shoes off and sit a spell.

Ya’ll come back now, ya hear?

I just want to comment that if I were the CEO of a big huge multinational corporation, I would go out of my way to locate my factories in any state that had as its flag a jet black background with a yellow smiley face in the middle.

Just 'cuz it’s cool.

You can always go out, stand next to the guy, with a sign that says “Boycott the boycotter”.

Put a couple of crossed femur bones under that puppy. Now that would be cool.
