Lost in deep space, on impulse power only.

But we burned up the Zilch coils!

While I would not mind a Khan movie I am glad they are not going that route. I think it would be interesting to see how the characters would act in different circumstance. But then I enjoy alternate histories and timeline stories. And yes, people would compare it to the previous film, but if it is a good story told in an interesting way, I could get lost in that world and not think about the previous version.
If they were debunked, then they came back. I can show you fans from a month or two ago thinking it was confirmed that it was Khan, to the point of doing video reviews of TWOK and Space Seed in preparation. If real trekkies were fooled, who follow this stuff religiously, there’s no way the average film watcher was not.
And, no, I didn’t get what the studios were saying wrong. You don’t deliberately hide the name of the villain if it’s not someone we already know, and Khan is one of a very small number of human villains. The only “debunking” I know of is one actor saying his character wasn’t called “Khan,” which was not backed up by the studios at all. They let people go on thinking it was Khan pretty much up until this trailer you are mentioning. (One I didn’t even know about because I’d stopped following the news on a movie I wasn’t planning on seeing.)
Finally, I have no idea how I was supposed to have figured anything at all about the movie from this thread. It starts with people ridiculing the OP, followed by people discussing the reboot, followed by people discussing the other movies. Not once does anyone touch upon the plot of the upcoming movie.
Even now knowing it’s not Khan, I still have a bad taste in my mouth for how the publicity was handled. And the idea of Trek going “Into Darkness” still is not that appealing. (Do stuff in your new universe before subverting that universe. Not even the Reboot universe was actually dark.) So I downgrade my boycott to a “Meh, maybe I’ll catch it on Netflix or bargain-rack DVD.”
And here’s an article I just found on Google saying that fans think it STILL could be Khan under a different name.
I’ve always had a fondness for TOS ever since watching early reruns back in the '70s, but I don’t remember many of the details, nor did I ever watch any of the other series.
I thought the 2009 reboot was fun and ingenious: they wanted to do something that was kind of like TOS but not have it be TOS, so they finessed it with an alternate timeline.
But having watched the linked trailer, I’m not too sure about this reboot sequel. Star Trek on Earth? What fun is that? Even in TOS I never found the episodes set on Earth particularly gripping. (Yes, I get that this is future-Earth we’re going to be seeing in this sequel, but I’m still not really excited about it. In the Star Trek universe, IMO, Earth is supposed to be where you’re from, not where you are.)
I’ll probably go see it, though. But not really because of Benedict Cumberbatch. I think Cumberbatch is an excellent actor and very good value, but I don’t need to see him in everything, and that’s kind of where he seems to be these days. (Fans who do want to see Cumberbatch in everything, however, should make sure they catch the 2003 ITV series Fortysomething, where he plays Hugh Laurie’s teenage son.)
I thought the only TOS episodes set on Earth were the ones where they went back in time to the 20th century.
Yeah, those are the ones I mean. But I wouldn’t really have been interested in TOS-on-Earth even if they’d been showing 24th-century Earth. Been here done this, dudes! Let’s go someplace new! Maybe with silicon-based life forms! ![]()
Just got back from seeing it - and it is quite good.
John Harrison is a pseudonym
Someone leaked/spoiled the film on Star Trek dot bbs.
If it is an acurate spoilage, plot holes ahoy!
I still wanna see it.
Just saw it. I was very much entertained, but I have concerns.
Dunno if its the same spoiler I’ve seen, but it makes me not want to see it
(although to be honest, I wasn’t that keen to start with)
