OK, everyone’s pissed about the banner ads, and maybe still pissed about the google ads. They don’t bother me much, but I like this place and I don’t want to see a bunch of good people split because of them.
Let’s face it: TPTB aren’t ever going to ask for our input or opinions regarding board administration, and that’s their decision to make. We don’t like many of these decisions and we’re entitled to our opinions. So how do we reconcile these positions?
We do it the smart way. We react appropriately, and with discipline. Quitting the boards isn’t the answer. Blocking the ads is a start, but we need to send a message.
This may be a stupid idea, but I don’t think so - I think it’s our best bet and the smartest way to get our message across.
I’m glad of the banner episode - it’s finally got me to block all adverts. If the spammers realised none of their target market were actually going to see their adverts they wouldn’t bother.
But on the other hand if advertisers want to pay for ads that are never seen then I guess it is their business.
What worries me is that a combination of exodus and reduced influx will send this board into an irreversible decline.
This place went seriously downhill after becoming a pay site.
A posting boycott doesn’t make any sense. I think we need to make the punishment fit he crime. TPTB put up banner ads, we refuse to click them. They get zero click-throughs and eventually get the message.
