Braking system in Armored Personell Cariers?

There was an accident in an army camp in Greece, where an APC went out of control, and crashed onto a building. According to the report, the APC’s engine stopped due to mechanical failure and that rendered the brakes inoperable.

It doesn’t mention the type of APC and I don’t know what is the standard issue in Greece, but can this really happen? Stalled engine=no brakes?

What kind of brakes do APCs have? Do they have a system similar to trucks, or something totaly different?

I believe all modern cars have a vaccum assist brakes. This vaccum is created using power from the engine. If the engine were to stop you would get the power from whats left in the vaccum assist and then it’d just be the mechanical leverage you can levy on the brake for you to stop. I assume an APC is pretty damn heavy. You probably couldn’t stop it in a short amount of time without the help of the engine.

That’s correct only if APCs have hydraulic brakes.
