Brave or what? Royal Marine jumps on grenade

I’m hand-waving away nothing. In case you hadn’t noticed, I, too, am a vehement opponent to the war in Iraq, and I was in 2002. And I am in the the complicated position of being the father of a sailor who is doing his damnedest to keep American soldiers in Iraq alive so they can come home when the insanity ends. Do you at least understand that much?

Mods: Never mind, I won’t personalize this issue any more in this thread. But it’s damned hard to not personalize it when it is so fucking personal to me.

I tried to convince my boss that in my spare time I was a devoted musician in a West Indian style Steel Band but he told me not to be a cunt and remove the oildrum from the front of my Windproofs.

I’ll join the cosensus in that not only is he an incredibly brave man but clearheaded aswell,a very switched on soldier.

Talking about V.C.s that should have been but because of lack of friendly witnesses never happened.

At the end of the Falklands war an Argentinian Commando officer told our people about the bravest man he and his blokes had ever seen and until that moment we’d never known what happened.

A bloke called Gavin Hamilton the boss of Mountain Troop ,D Squadron 22 SAS(Who had already survived some pretty incredible missions during the FKDsWar)was with a four man behind enemy lines in West Falkland doing a very close to the enemy Covert Observation Post radioing back the usual.

Two of the blokes were back in the LyingUpPosition and he and the operator were well up forward when they were bumped by a much larger Argie Commando unit.

He and the Radio Op.immediatly stood up and initiated the fight though overwhelmingly outnumbered.
He told the Op to get the fuck out(As he had the codes and Freqs) and carried on firing.

The Argie Rupert said that G.H. got shot, fell down, stood back up and carried on shooting, was shot again and fell down, got back up though he was in bits by this time and fired again before being shot once more and going down for the last time.

I dont know if the books agree with this version but this is the verbal account as related to me.

As I said we were totally unaware of his total guts until our former enemy told us .
That man should have got the V.C. and no messing.
