Bravo: You suck. Wedding Singer is not funny.

What Exit?/Jim: I actually just shot off an email to Bravo regarding that very question. Hopefully they’ll get back to me. Or else cower in the wrongness.

Animal House, which…no.

There is no way to put those movies in the proper order because they are clearly nothing even resembling the 100 funniest movies ever. Two b/w movies on the entire list (Dr Strangelove and Young Frankenstein, which for all intents and purposes doesn’t count). No screwball comedies at all. No Marx Brothers. Hell, not even any Ritz Brothers. No Three Stooges (which personally I don’t find them all that funny but given their enormous popularity you’d think there’d be a mention). No Hepburn/Tracy.

And no Blue Velvet, which is clearly the best comedy ever made.

The fact that the Three Amigos was on that list much less anything by Adam Sandler makes this list a joke.

All of this list shows are for shit anyway.

Bravo my hole.

…or starring actors whose publicists have been making the rounds recently.

In fact, I have learned that (was it E! or Bravo?) negotiates ranking with celebrities on these types of shows. Agree to an interview or an appearance, and they’ll move you up.

How come** Armegeddon** isn’t on the list?

Saw the list after I posted, Otto, and I agree with you. Too many missing movies! I’d even bet that the Pink Panther referenced was the Steve Martin version (as there is no way in heaven, hell, or earth that Police Academy ranks higher than Peter Seller’s Pink Panther). What we need to do is to form a real top 100 list, and submit it to Bravo in a this is a joke, Secret Service letter bomb of nuclear (or nucular) proportions.

Even among recent movies, how could they pass over Shaun of the Dead? That’s the only movie I can think of that had me non-stop giggling in many a year, and I don’t even like zombies.

Buckaroo Banzai? Rozencrantz and Guildenstern are dead?

Would be a great movie. Any films students out there want in on this?

I can think of ten films that are all funnier than their top ten. Wait, I can think of ten more…

I hate these list things. They’re so utterly pointless. And yet, I find myself compelled to find out the rankings for some reason. I’m such a whore.

I will grant them that comedy is pretty subjective but in no world is Meet the Fockers funnier than Meet the Parents and NEITHER of those movies are funnier than Dr. Strangelove, Duck Soup, or Zoolander (yes, I said zoolander).

It’s a pretty shitty list but I suppose it’s a nice change to see a list where the top ten isn’t comprised of the same ten movies…

More like 1970. (One or two 1968-ish titles.) The Thin Man is my nomination for an egregious oversight.

I just got a response from Bravo:

“Dear Sir,
Thank you for contacting Bravo, the network that brought you Real Housewives of Orange County. In regards to your question as to what criteria, if any, we used to rank the Top 100 Funniest Movies of All Time, we exhaustively interviewed bit players from half-successful late '80s and early '90s comedies and asked them for their personal lists. We also interviewed Peter “You Can Bribe Me For $20” Travers and some black comedians we think you might accidentally mistake for Dave Chappelle if you’re only half paying attention. We then compiled their favorites, threw in a few movies we have the rights to, and viola! Thanks for watching!”

Odds of them actually answering my question? Very, very, very low. I did couch it as an avid Bravo watcher who looooved their list. In the event I actually get an answer, it’s yours.

The list is so wrong that it makes me wonder if its main purpose was advertising movies produced or distributed by Universal (which own Bravo, IIRC). Anyone know how many of the top 100 Universal has a stake in?

I would take it a step further and say “Nothing before 1960, but remakes are alright” as Father of the Bride…with Steve Martin (scrubs eyes) made #92! Why??? My GOD, people! If you want decent Spencer Tracey, you can do way better than Father of the Bride (even if the original does blow the remake out of the water). Adam’s Rib or Pat & Mike easily beat most of these movies.

All I can think is they took the top grossing comedies of the past 25 years or so, stuck them in a list and went from there. I mean, please. The 40 Year Old Virgin? THERE WERE MORE LAUGHS IN CASABLANCA, DAMMIT!!!

Seconded. Bravo your hole, indeed.

:dubious:

Lessee…
“Your winnings, sir.”

“… the usual suspects.”

“We’ll always have Paris.”

You’re right!

Given the subject matter and relative lack of flaming, hitting, spitting and giving each other dirty looks, this thread would fit better in Cafe Society.

I didn’t see the program but I’m fairly sure it’s the original Pink Panther. Of course, the only reason it’s even there is because of its recent remake has focused new attention on it (likewise for The Producers). Anyway, The Pink Panther isn’t even the funniest Inspector Clouseau movie. That would be A Shot in the Dark.

The original Pink Panther wasn’t that great either. A Shot in the Dark was much better.
