Favourite comedy film of all time?

Withnail & I

I MUST HAVE SOME BOOZE
I DEMAND TO HAVE SOME BOOZE!

Three way tie. Really depends on which one I saw most recently.

Airplane!
Blazing Saddles
Young Frankenstein.

running coach got my top two:

Young Frankenstein
Blazing Saddles

Harold and Maude

Woody Allen’s directorial debut-What’s Up, Tiger Lily?(i966)

Blazing Saddles
The Producers

3 varies.

I’ll definitely have to watch blazing saddles. I plan to watch all suggested here I haven’t watched.

***The Producers ***(1968).

There’s Something About Mary
When the Farrelly brothers were at the top of their game.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Duck Soup
Love and Death
The General

To Airplane! and Young Frankenstein I’ll add Duck Soup and Horse Feathers.

(Blazing Saddles never quite grabbed me.)

These 3 and Arsenic and Old Lace and I guess at 5th would be Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Oddly There’s Something About Mary is not even funny to me. I know many love it but it left me flat. I don’t typically like either lead in the movie so that is probably part of it. Hampshire, are you still in your 30s? I often feel there is a generational thing with *There’s Something About Mary *and Ben Stiller.

By the way, *Some Like it Hot *often comes up as the top comedy, I cannot comprehend this at all. It has some funny moments but there were funnier movies before it and many after it. Why do older critics love it so much?

A Night at the Opera
Airplane
Kentucky Fried Movie
Top Secret
The Naked Gun
Young Frankenstein
Spaceballs
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum
Cold Turkey
Airplane 2
Arsenic and Old Lace
who’s Minding the Mint?
The Producers
(the original Gene Wilder/Zero Mostel version)

I don’t care all that much for Blazing Saddles. Woody Allen’s older, funnier movies don’t hold up so well. I still like What’s Up Tiger Lily?, but not as much as I once did. I showed it to Pepper Mill and she hated it. She hated Everything you Wanted to Know about Sex, too. There’s Something about Mary does nothing for me.

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. No contest.

And which one is your favorite?

Neither. Was not a fan of something about Mary. Also,

What collision?

This is what im saying!

My Cousin Vinny

But it has to be the uncut version, not the cleaned-up-for-TV version, largely because the F-bombs in the jail scene where Vinny first meets the other main characters makes the comedy and double meanings of that scene truly rich. Without that, the movie loses a lot of laughs.

Repeated viewing and many years dim the memory but I don’t think I have ever laugh as hard at a movie more than the Holy Grail.

After that I would rank in order:
Blazing Saddles
Young Frankenstein
A Night at the Opera
Life of Brian
My Favorite Year
The Producers
High Anxiety
Annie Hall

and out of nowhere…Kingpins

Arthur. (The Dudley Moore one, not the Russell Brand remake)
