Airplane!
Young Frankenstein
When I plucked my brain for comedies I like, these were the first three I thought of today:
When Harry Met Sally
Superbad
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
Duck Soup
Airplane!
Airplane!
All of Me
A Night At The Opera
The Emperor’s New Groove
Blazing Saddles
Toy Story 3
Seriously, The Emperor’s New Groove doesn’t get a lot of attention, but it is just about the funniest movie I’ve ever seen.
The Awful Truth
To Be or Not to Be (the original one from 1942)
Stranger than Paradise
My 10-year-old recommends anything with Wallace and Gromit.
Blazing Saddles / Young Frankenstein
A Fish Called Wanda
Monty Python & the Holy Grail
Dead Alive
Phallus in Wonderland
Skulhedface
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Young Frankenstein
Marvel’s The Avengers
{The last, while not a comedy itself, has that “Puny god” line which slays me every time.}
Arsenic and Old Lace
Blazing Saddles
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Young Frankenstein
Love & Death
Airplane!
I gotta say, I remember blazing saddles as hilarious, but I just watched for the first time in decades last week and I only vocalized a couple chortles. Don’t get me wrong, I was still mostly smiling throughout, but there was no roar of laughter to be had anywhere.
I’m with Rivkah. The first thing that came to mind was the original To Be Or Not To Be, with Jack Benny and Carole Lombard. Exquisite stuff.
Also any Wallace and Gromit. And Stranger Than Paradise still tickles my funny bone.
Ruthless People. Since the new administration took office, the quote
pops into my head on an almost dailiy basis.
I very rarely roar, with laughter or anything else. However…

It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World
A Mighty Wind (by a hair over This Is Spinal Tap, just because I’ve heard the jokes from the latter too many times)
Try “Enter Laughing,” Carl Reiner’s autobiography on film. The bit players (Shelley Winters, Jose Ferrer, Jack Gilford) bring down the house.
