Bread bakers, recommend a good slicer

As to the slicing, I never got better with practice; I tried guides and knives with guides and all my slices came out top heavy or thin as paper at the bottom or…ugly. So I bought a $29 Rival electric slicer at Walmart that folds up so it doesn’t even take up too much space in my cabinet. It adjusts so you can cut the thickness you want. Each slice comes out perfect and exactly like the last. I love it. You just have to be careful not to push the bread through too fast and you can’t slice warm bread, but then you can’t do that with a knife either. Very nice. I’m going to try to post a link here: http://www.furninishing.com/Rival%20Fold-Up%20Electric%20Food%20Slicer/Store/3957101

I have one of those, Similar, anyway. Funny, I never even thought to use it for bread :smack:

I knew a guy (back in the day  ) who used to always leave some of the dough in the mixing bowl, which would grow into the starter for the next time. I’m not sure how it worked, but the pancakes-bread-biscuits were pretty good. But when you’re in your early teens, most anything tastes good.
You jusr reminded me of that. I might look into it. Oh, yeah, he called it the “mother”.
