Breakfast at Tiffany's

I will say that the movie generally creeps me out too, though I will watch it when it’s on. Though I realize that AH’s character is supposed to be just this side of clinically disturbed, and I shouldn’t be looking for a sympathetic character, I wish she and most of the others could be more comfortable as it were, less jarring of pet standards that I hold people to. The way she treats that cat, for example…the first time I saw her practically bounce the cat off the opposite wall, I spent the rest of the movie wondering when she was going to go ballistic on him again. And the way she says, in that sweet demure voice, “Stop the cab!”, and kicks the cat out into the downpour is chilling to me. I find the act of abandoning the cat hardly redeemed by the fact that she goes back for him.

And most of the other characters and situations are equally disquieting.

Let me start by saying the obligatory I love the movie, and I adore Audrey.

That being noted, am I the only fan of both the book and the movie that thinks the movie robbed us by shoe-horning on the goddamed happy ending, rather than sticking with the book.

Jesus, Holly running off was the only way the character maintained continuity, and then we have Audrey and George kissing in the rain. While it appeals more to the romantic in me, it really makes me feel as though the filmmaker’s resolve melted down in the 11th hour.

I have to consider book and movie as two entirely separate and unrelated entities in order to enjoy the movie, but I have no problem doing that (luckily).

I never really paid attention to Rooney in this film. Each of the several times of seen it, I’ve been too in awe of Audrey Hepburn to pay attention to much else. Saying she was miscast and the part would have been better portrayed by Monroe is like saying you’d prefer to dine at Sizzler when you arrive at the parking lot of Ruth Chris.

And he was the number one box office draw for a period that spanned two decades…

I adore Roman Holiday, and I’s so glad they didn’t cop out on the ending of that movie. Apparently, several different endings were considered, but the one they went with was Capote’s own. While I like BaT, It’s not one of my AH favorites. Sabrina, A Nun’s Story, and Funny Face are some of my faves.

Actually, Audrey stated several times that she felt she was miscast for the movie, and that she hated treating poor Rhubarb that way.

Fair enough, javaman. Maybe you can point me to some of his great performances because I sure haven’t seen one. That piece of drek, Boystown, is supposedly one of them and, unfortunately, I have seen that one.
