By the dingo, maybe?
OMG, the actress who plays the baby got run over!?
I wonder if there’s a Mrs. Gus. He’s mentioned that he has kids a couple of times (once in his “a man provides for his family even if they hate him” speech to Walt and then when he mentioned they wouldn’t try his Chilean fish stew) but we don’t know whether they’re little, grown or in-between.
It would be almost impossible for him to keep his illegal activities secret from a wife, which makes me wonder if he’s married to a Cartel member’s relative. Perhaps Tio Hector is an in-law.
Didn’t we decide a few episodes ago that Gus is probably gay? I forgot about the mention of kids - it surprises me a little since we’ve never seen them. They could be adopted though or he could have had a wife at one point for the sake of appearances.
There’s always the possibility that he’s lying, too.
After the scenes with Max, I don’t think there’s any doubt that Gus is gay and revenge-driven. His obsessive pursuit of that revenge wouldn’t seem to leave much time to put a dummy wife and kids in place just for show, not to mention how that would put more people into the equation, and into danger for no real reason. I don’t think anyone would question that Mr. Fring is a lifelong bachelor.
What do you guys think about the theory that Max was a junkie? He looked pretty wild-eyed and bloodshot in the first scene at Don Eladio’s, but I didn’t think of him being on the meth until I read it on the TWoP forums.
Skylar as the second coming of Ronnie Deutsch was a bit much for me. I doubt she’s had enough experience with the IRS to be able to lay out the whole scenario like she did.
Even if she was just trying to scare him she came off as way too knowledgeable.
I did like her as the ditzy bookkeeper though!
Don’t feed the ducks.
I thought Walt had moved back home…what did I miss and when did I miss it?
There’s been no further discussion of it (on camera), but Walt certainly seems to be sticking with his condo for the time being. Walter and Skyler’s rapprochement didn’t last long.
It’s not established, just perhaps hinted at, and even if he is he also is a Hispanic drug lord and was a big shot under Pinochet, both of which have profiles that could benefit from a beard wife.
I think Walt got pissed off when Jr told him that “Mom said you could move back in.” He was already feeling emasculated by her at the moment and that kind of piled onto that feeling. He didn’t want her permission to move back into his house.
What Walt Jr. actually said was “mom said you were moving back in on Tuesday” or something equally definitive which conveyed the idea that it was a done deal, without having confirmed it that way with Walt himself.
The net effect was close to what you describe, though, Walt resented her presumption, which was emasculating.
Post and username WIN.
You must have missed the “I’m the one who knocks” speech from Walt to Skyler. He laid it out for her when she expressed concern about his safety for the hundredth time, after they had been to Hank’s for dinner and Walt drunkenly told Hank that Gayle wasn’t Heisenberg, that he had the wrong guy. Walt put on a whole tough guy act that evidently didn’t impress Skyler too much because she pulled one of her disappearing acts for a few days (same day Walt bought the Charger for Jr). After she came home it was clear any headway they’d made in reconciliation was out the window.
(Yeah I’m obsessed with BB, lol)
Gus seems to be good with people. Whether it’s managing or manipulation, Gus knows his way around.
You said it yourself, ‘Gus needs Walt’. Walt has consistently and repeatedly put himself on the line to protect Jesse. They come as a set, if he wants Walt he gets Jesse too.
Gus doesn’t trust junkies. Despite his trying to help and be a friend to Jesse, he may not trust him in the slightest. But if you have to work with a junkie then give him a reason to stay sober. Give him a reason to take your side if his loyalty is tested. Give him a reason not to kill you! (No, I don’t think that Gus knows).
I’m no expert in dealing with people but it sounds reasonable to me.
Beside being late, I posted this to the wrong episode since I had to catch up with the last two just a couple days ago.
Another thing…she mentioned Quicken rather than QuickBooks… the former is a personal finance software program and coldn’t possibly be used for the business. Of course, a real ditz could get the names mixed up.
Skylar seems to have lost some of that weight she put on too.
He was also on La Femme Nikita. And while I’m not going to even google it, I think he was supposed to have been of Irish descent on 24, as his name was O’Brien (Chloe kept the name when they separated).
They don’t have any accounting consultants on the show, that’s for sure. My fellow bookkeepers and I have all been puzzled since the whole thing came up in Season 2, because if you go back and listen to the conversation, Ted and Skyler are not talking about hiding income, they are talking about faking income.
As for Skyler’s knowledge being unbelievable, I thought so too until I realized that she had just spent a lot of time educating herself on the subject of laundering money, which is all about the IRS, so it makes perfect sense that the topic is fresh and extensive in her mind.
According to the podcast, they did consult to a tax professional when writing the scene where Skyler masquerades as a blonde ditz. If I recall correctly, Vince Gilligan has an assistant whose mother works for the IRS in a similar capacity to the auditor who was investigating Beneke. Whether or not they were using a consultant for the previous season is a good question, though, and I agree that there’s some inconsistencies as to the type of fraud that’s happening.
The White’s story is that Walt won a lot of money counting cards. Saul was able to find a house willing to fake these losses so it’ll look good if the authorities take a look. But wasn’t there something about a bank loan as well? Maybe I remember it being brought up as an idea and rejected, but wasn’t Walt or someone wringing his hands over why a bank would loan 800K to an unemployed couple?
