Breaking Bad 5.10 "Buried" 8/18/13

I’ll have to rewatch to see if I can catch all of those GPS coordinates. It’d be pretty cool and funny if they put something at those coordinates in some kind of Breaking Bad geocache thing.

Walt told Skyler, “I know that you made a deal.” We know that she didn’t. I can’t believe that she let that go.

I’ll take a moment here to tout my “Walt Jr. as Keyser Soze” ending again.

Aside from Declan and his crew getting wiped out, this was a quiet episode. It felt like they used this one to set up what’s going to happen over the last six episodes. Jesse is in custody and it looks like Hank is going to the DEA with what he knows. The money is buried. Lydia has taken control of the meth operation and she’s determined to get a better product. We did get a rare moment of humanity from Walt (I couldn’t hear a lot of that conversation, by the way, and I will have to watch it again) when he said he would turn them in if Skyler promised to keep the money. At least it was sort of humanity, since he was thinking of his family but also insisting she live with their criminal proceeds forever. But of course it was impossible anyway.

I bet that there are people on their way there at this very moment.

How awesome if Walt buried the money under a big ‘WW’?

I liked Lydia’s “I don’t want to see.” Walt’s full of anger and can use the excuse of his family to justify all the horrible things he does, Jesse struggles with all the guilty, and Lydia just chooses not to look.

It’s amazing how gradual and seamless Skyler’s journey to the dark side has been. Maybe even more so than Walt’s. Hank telling her “you’re done being his victim”… but of course she isn’t anymore. She’s an accomplice. Now I’m trying to figure out just where the switch happened, and I can’t point to one specific time.

Maybe that’s the real “Miss Chips to Mrs. Scarface” story. You can argue that Walt always had it in him to be the bad guy, but can say that about Skyler?

Skyler went over to the dark side after Walt convinced her she was trapped, and that she was going to lose their children if she didn’t at least countenance what he was doing.

Did she really have no other choice at that point? She could have gone to the cops, taken the kids and gotten out of Dodge. She always could have… until she couldn’t anymore.

I feel like watching the show from the beginning again, and paying closer attention to Skyler.

I wouldn’t say she had no choice, but I will say Walt convinced her she had no choice. And she had nothing to take to the police at that point.

When was she cooking the books for Benneke? She’s no angel?

Wasn’t the crossroads episode for Skyler “Cornered”? Walt gave her the “I am the one who knocks” speech and she took off with Holly in the car and flipped a quarter at the Four Corners monument. That was her last chance to escape, and when she came back she started laundering money and working the cover story in earnest.

On a unrelated note, I am glad that they brought back Marie’s kleptomania.

Yeah. I guess if there’s a moment, it’s that one.

I thought she refused to cook the books for him. Am I remembering wrong? Hell, I can’t even remember if she knows he’s dead.

I don’t see Jesse working with Hank. Jesse doesn’t have the mindset to work within the law. Plus, he’s so depressed. What could anyone say to make him snap out of it? He doesn’t care what happens to himself or to Walt.

Do you think that old man reported the found money? I’d like to think he did.

That was hardly evil. She thought she was helping him stay in business. But it did show that she was willing to compromise on ethics, which pushed her down that road some more.

Of course, she chose to come back. The coin “told” to leave- twice.

Since we’ve already seen flash-forwards to a year in the future with Walt still alive, the thought honestly didn’t cross my mind.

Ted’s not dead, is he? Wasn’t he in the hospital the last time we saw him?

That’s what snapped me out of it, but just for a second, I thought he might die. I think Bryon Cranston is one of the greatest actors around and if you look back hard enough I may have even said that before BB started (and I know I’ve said it plenty of times since), but while he was on the floor talking the speech just didn’t seem that good and certainly not a good deathbed speech. Between that and the flash forwards, I figured he wasn’t about to die.
Did anyone else think the old man at the beginning looked like a bit like Mike?

Did she ever appear to be all that helpless? She did put a hit out on Mike and all his guys, plus his lawyer, and one point. She’s not above orchestrating a bit of murder and mayhem to save her own bacon.
