Okay, time for panty talk. I have a history of problems with yeast, so I have always been told to wear cotton panties because they breathe. Alas, the cotton panty–especially the kind that doesn’t create panty lines–seems to be a dying breed. Almost everything is microfiber or nylon, now.
Somehow, I am thinking that these, being so popular that they have displaced cotton, must be breathable also.
Nope, they still aren’t breathable. The history of woman-hood is replete with bad products and misinformation behind even simple products (for example, it still comes as news to people that with a doctor’s support most people can use their birth control pills to skip many of their periods. Why this isn’t common info is beyond me).
You should be able to pick up a million-pack of Hanes white undies (dyes can also cause problems) for a few bucks at Target. Really thin ones will be just as good at hiding panty lines as a ten-buck pair of specially engineered name brand panties.
Both Fruit of the Loom and Hanes are selling cotton “boy-shorts” now @ Walmart. Not sure about elsewhere. I have both brands. The Hanes have seams on the back that can be seen with body skimming clothes, like thin fabric sweats for example. You can’t see them through jeans though. The FotL don’t have visible seams, so I guess you could say no panty lines. I like these precisely for the lack of panty lines. Boy cuts are comfortable once you get used to them and they don’t ride up AT ALL!
I like the Victoria’s Secret cotton panties quite well - they’re a little pricier than Hanes and what have you, but they stay where you put them, come in cute patterns, and last and last and last and last. Any panty is going to give you panty lines - try a few different cuts.
Every time I go shopping there are walls and walls of cotton panties. If you really get worked up about pantylines, try wearing looser clothing! My boss would have no problem at all with pantylines if she didn’t pour herself into pants that are two sizes too small!
Or too-small panties, for that matter.
I’ve missed the memos about microfiber. Just what IS it, anyway?
As for yeast problems, wear looser clothing, even if you are wearing cotton panties. Yeast loves warm moist places, so your goal is to keep that area cool, dry, and well ventilated (within reason…I’m not advocating going nude). Probiotics come in nice chewable tablets these days, though they must be kept refrigerated, and I’ve found that by taking some regularly, I have fewer gut and yeast problems. Other people swear by liveculture yogurt, and while I’m sure it’s effective, I just can’t stand the taste.
