FYI: Brett Favre is from Kiln, Mississippi, which, according to every newspaper and magazine article I’ve seen it mentioned in, is pronounced “kill.” Go figure.
“Kill” is the accepted pronunciation of the world “kiln.” The American Heritage Dictionary lists it first, followed by “kiln.” The “n” had historically been silent, like the “t” in “often.”
According to newspaper and other style guides, the spelling and pronunciation of a person’s name always follows that person’t preferred pronunciation. Thus when Prince renamed himself, everyone had to go along.
