Bricker, You're a Jackass Extraordinaire

I concur. Bricker is 180° away from me, politically, but he is one of my favorite contributors to the SDMB.

Bricker would be an asshole no matter whose side he was on. But it does seem like he’s gotten a bit better in that regard recently. Or maybe he’s just posting less.

I pit BPC for choosing to revive this zombie thread and ignoring the many other worthy zombie Bricker Pit threads, such as:

I also pit alligators for having nasty, sharp snaggle teeth and eating little foofy dogs.

So, you’re the liberal in Wyoming that everyone mentions when they say not everyone there is conservative!

There’s nothing particularly partisan about spotting a guy who makes regular attempts to prove he’s smarter than everyone else. Granted, on this particular board, a lazy approach would be to try to frequently sneak in the implication that obviously everyone with different politics is stupider than the guy, because his politics are the only rational ones. Among the people who make a habit of this, Bricker is subtler than most, but it’s still pretty apparent.

Me too.

Doesn’t unearthing a five year old personal bitching session violate the statute of lamentations?

This, though in my case it’s more like 98.6 degrees.

Yep, it is just my wife and me- and maybe two of the teachers in town. Jackson Hole has quite a few liberals, and is considered “little California” by many in this region.

golf clap

I hate you. As a matter of principle, I hate anyone cleverer than me.

The Socratic Method sucks for use in conversation, though. First off, it presupposes a hierarchy of an enlightened teacher who needs to get through to a dull student–and that both people in that dynamic accept that. It also presupposes that there is a Right way to think about something and that “Socrates” knows what it is.

What’s more, it also presupposes a situation where you are trying to convince someone of something. So, in situations where you are actually asking an expert about how something works, it’s still not good. You didn’t ask to be convinced that this is the Right way to do it.

The Socratic Method is useful in certain limited contexts. It otherwise comes across as annoying smug, frustrates people just trying to get answers, and causes people to disengage, hence convincing no one.

If it worked, people would be using it all the time to convince people. Not just lawyers who were taught it and got enamored with it, while not realizing its pitfalls.

Not sure it was worthy of re-opening a zombie pitting but hey I’ll pit Bricker for his relentless defense of the Catholic church’s refusal to own and clean up the multiple pedophile scandals all around the world.

After five years I think you can safely say that it’s a full on character trait and not just a phase he’s going through.

At first I thought you’d written that **Bricker **is an asshat!
Now I see you wrote that he’s an asset.

I quite agree.

Friend Request sent.

Shodan

My irony detector started smoking and finally exploded. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah, with you I can be friends.

Tsk, tsk, tsk. You make it blatantly obvious that you are the one who has to have answers spoon-fed to you, or your feelings get hurt. If you don’t want to answer questions, don’t answer them. Of course, answering might clarify your position, but who wants to hear that horseshit.

Bricker has been a valuable asset to this board. It’s not easy translating legalese into something that can be understood by the common person but I think he does a pretty gosh darn good job of it. The fact that it infuriates a tosser such as yourself’ is a plus. IMHO, of course.

p.s. A bump for a 2012 thread makes you look very, very sad, and desperate. just sayin’
