Brilliant marketing strategies

How about freezing 5000 fish into your skating rink?

Good stunt, but would look awfully messy after a few skaters went over those goldfish half in / half out of the ice!

Why would you use real fish? Surely plastic fish would have been cheaper and better…

“With God as my witness, I thought fish could thaw!”

How was this even a marketing strategy, let alone a brilliant one?

Strange. I’ve seen Japanese torturing live fish with nary a thought about it, on live TV. I suspect that something more was going on, if they complained about the rink (like the half in/half out aspect of the deal).

I believe he bought them from a fish market, and were already dead. It was camp, not cruel.

Frankly I think it’s kind of a fun idea for a publicity thing.

Where they really went wrong, as has been stated, is using real fish and, for whatever reason, having them half out of the ice.

I assume some of the fish were “skates.”

This has never been more appropriate:
slaps panache with a wet trout

I don’t think they were actually half out of the ice. I think the author of the article is misinterpreting the picture. Those fish are being held in place so that they will be upright when frozen. I think someone took a picture half-way through installation, before the water was poured and subsequently frozen.

It reminds me of Homer Simpson’s marketing strategy for the bowling alley where he was working.
