A friend of mine generously gave me an ice cream maker that she bought two years ago but never used. She figures if she hasn’t used it yet, she’s not going to.
I’ve used it twice. It’s quite a nice one, the kind where you freeze the ice cream tub and plug it in and don’t have to crank the handle or anything.
For our first “outing”, we decided to keep it simple: Vanilla Chocolate Chip. Two cups heavy cream, one cup Half and Half, one cup sugar, two eggs, 1 and 1/2tsp. pure vanilla extract, and a half cup of mini semi-sweet chips added in the last five minutes. It was excellent.
Our second try was also a success, Banana ice cream. Same dairy, sugar and eggs as previous, but only a half tsp of vanilla extract, three drops of banana extract, and two very ripe, diced bananas.
We’d like to make ice cream every weekend, so if you have any good recipes, hand 'em over!
