True confessions: when someone else brought chips to a potluck, I’d vacillate between a petty resentment that they didn’t bother to make anything while I’d spent time and energy cooking and petty jealousy because I didn’t get to sign up for chips-and-dips. Childish? Yes! But in my defense, between all the holiday cooking, shopping, wrapping, and shipping, I was exhausted.
Which brings us to the heart of the matter: EVERYBODY is too busy at this time of year to be cooking extra dishes for some work function. Next November, before the potluck planning starts, propose that everyone chip (Ha!) in a set amount to have the holiday lunch delivered. You’ll spend the same or less, and everyone will have an even better time.
But then how will we feel superior to one another?
