So, what’s the story with Brini Maxwell? I’ve watched the show several times now, and from the very start, there’s been something I just couldn’t put my finger on, until this weekend, my daughter says to me, “A Drag show, on this channel?” It then dawned on me that I keep getting the vibes that Brini Maxwell is a little too feminine, a little to graciously slow, a little to physically not a woman to be a woman.
I’d be curious to see if any other Dopers had the feeling that something just wasn’t right with Brini Maxwell. I mean, I know it’s show business and everyone has to have a schtick, but…hell, this is driving me nuts!
I first heard of Brini Maxwell on Late Night With Conan O’Brien a couple weeks ago, where they made fondue together. And she was billed as a “gender illusionist.” There you go!
I saw that Conan show and I am amazed that it would take anyone longer than 2 or 3 seconds to figure out that Brini Maxwell is not a woman! No offense, phall0106, it just seems so obvious.
I saw her on Conan O’Brien, as well. And, I have to say, she’s a fine looking woman… for a man. One of the best looking drag queens I’ve ever seen. The photo link provided by yosemitebabe doesn’t do her justice.
I just wonder how long it would have taken me to figure out she was a woman, if they hadn’t referred to her as a “gender illusionist” on the show. (When did they start using that term, anyway?) I definitely would have figured it out during the segment. Of course, the repartee between her and Conan would have hinted at something.
Brini Maxwell has been around forever. Before her recent foray into network television, she hosted a cable access show in NYC. And her shtick is immediately and obviously apparent.
