British Admiralty during the Great War

Does anyone happen to know who was on Britain’s Admiralty Board during World War I? Specifically, I’m interested in early 1918. Also, any information on how the Board functioned and made decisions would be appreciated.

Get a copy of “Dreadnaught” by R. Massie from your local library. It’s about the battleship arms race between Britain and Germany leading up to WWI. I can’t remember if it gets into much 1918 stuff but it certainly deals with goings on inside the Admiralty in great detail.

There were originally 5 lords commissioners in the Board of Admiralty, but there were probably more like 10 of them by the time of WWI. Chief among them was the First Lord of the Admiralty. At the beginning of the war, the First Lord was Winston Churchill, but he resigned in 1915. Sir Eric Geddes was First Lord in 1918, and Admiral Rosslyn Wemyss was First Sea Lord.

You may be interested in The Royal Navy in The Great War, but it doesn’t give much detail.
