British Dopers: did you buy a pocket PC for seven pounds?

According to the BBC, Amazon was selling IPaqs for ridiculous prices. Did any one scoop up couple of hundred? I’ll take one off your hands for a tenner (50% profit for you!).

I wonder if they’ll honour the deal. Other retailers (hello, Argos!) have been caught out and found loopholes in defining “offer” and “acceptance” in such transactions.

Mind you, I see that tenner and raise it to £15!

I can’t for a moment believe they’ll honour, because of the price discrepancy and the number of sales that are involved.

It wasn’t just the one machine, practically all of the handhelds on Amazon were showing at silly prices. There’s a note in their Terms and Conditions (which of course I now can’t find) that states that there are sometimes pricing errors, and if the price should be lower, then the customer will be charged the lower price, but if the correct price is higher, the customer will be contacted before delivery.

The reason the BBC found out about it so quickly is that half the corporation spend their lives on the popbitch website, and as soon as the news was posted on there, everyone disappeared over to Amazon to order some new toys.

Aye. It’s now being reported that they’ve already announced that per the T&Cs no sales at the incorrect price will be honoured.

Amazon fell foul of that one last year when they incorrectly priced some digital cameras at about UKP200 less than they should have. Apparently they did honour all the orders at the cheaper price.

Rumour hazzit that today their site is down because they’ve offered handhelds at UKP23 instead of UKP299. Bit of a dent in the profits, eh?

Felonious - that’s what this thread’s about!

The offier also covered the RoI, so I ordered one, but they turned off the webserver just as I hit to “submit this order”. Damnit. A friend of mine successfully ordered one and got the confirmation email, though. However, in their FAQs it says

According to theregister.co.uk, they haven’t honoured similar mistakes in the US.

Some heads will be rolling there.

jjimm , obviously I should read things a bit more carefully instead of just jumping in with both feet! I was told about the handhelds by someone else and never followed it up to see what it was all about.

What can I say? I’m just a girlie!

Well I’m a girlie and I snapped up two of these - didn’t dare buy any more! I’ve got a confirmation e-mail but I’m not convinced they’ll honour the order.
It was Kodak who sold digital cameras for £100 which should have been £329 - and after consumer pressure and the threat of court action they caved in and honoured the orders (around 9000 of them)
I personally think that amazon is probably too big an entity to take on but I’d be willing to try if other people are.

You’re a girlie? I had you down as an old, male, piano-playing furry creature.
