British food secret revealed....now what?

thankyouverymuch

And just so you don’t get any strange ideas about me, I find palt quite repugnant.

athene1765, you are quite right about the cinnamon and raisins! That is the best. My Gram used to make it with blueberries sometimes too, which was amazing. I wish I had gotten her recipes…

As for cajun food…ahhhhh, YUM. d_redguy and I went to New Orleans on our honeymoon recently and discovered that we LOVE cajun food. Especially gumbo and anything with crawdads. I wanna live there. sigh

Projected date for paying off the debts to the US for WW2 is December 31st 2006.

That’s what I said! Ox = beef. I said that ox liver is what you see in the US, but in the UK it is pig and lamb that is most commonly seen. In fact, I worked in a butcher’s shop as a teenager (in the UK) and we sold ox liver as dog-food!

In the UK the best liver is supposed to be calves’ liver, then lamb. “Beef” liver from the full grown animal would be only for pet food.

Oh please, stop, I promise I’l never say anything bad about Britain again…wonderfull people…bore the brunt of WWII…Ralph Vaughn Williams…Victoria, a sweet, sweet woman…foolish revolution…

You’re getting the idea, carnivorousplant. No, you do see ox liver other than as dog food, although, as I’ve said, it is stronger-flavoured than other varieties and hence less popular. Cooked the right way it slips down a treat, though.

We all have foods we’re not prepared to stomach. I could never be doing with vegetable marrow, tripe, or whelks. Most other things I’ll try

Please, no

Oh, this keeps getting more interesting. I’m thinking of starting my own Swedish thread where we can discuss the heavenly pleasures attained by relishing delicacies such as fermented herring and pickled pigs’ trotters…

have mercy

Urk!

And as we all know, south of the Mason-Dixon is known for the refinements of chitlin’s and turkey gizzards. Someone hand me a pork rind

South of The Mason-Dixon and Kosher. ;j

I have an ex-boyfriend who, along with several of his friends, frequently ate pork rinds with- can you imagine- whipped cream.

They claimed it was delicious, but it made me want to hurl.
