British Monarchy question

I think you’re remembering the one taken at the wedding of the Kaiser’s daughter. (BTW, if you’re interested in royal history, you should read her memoirs, The Kaiser’s Daughter.)

Here you go. The picture was taken in 1913, and I believe it was the last time there was a big gathering of all the royal families before WWI broke out.

Baker-Nicholas and Alexandra were second cousins, I think, since his grandmother on his father’s side was originally a Hessian princess. (Tsaritsa Maria Alexandrovna).
Michael of Kent is also descended from the Romanovs-his maternal grandmother was a Russian Grand Duchess who married into the Greek royal family. And yes, he looks frighteningly like the last Tsar.

That’s his business, of course, but I think it would be wiser for him to use the Stuart name of Charles than the Hanoverian name of George, to emphasize the historical continuity of the monarchy.

Considering that the last two Charles weren’t all that popular, to put it mildly, and that the last two Georges WERE popular, I’d say it’s the exact opposite.

I’ve always thought that one of the classier things the English did was to exhume the judge who sentenced Charles I to death and hang the corpse up to welcome Charles II home.

That’s is a ‘whoosh moment’, isn’t it?

Nitpick: the last two Charleses
