Brooklyn Dopers, what is this building?

I was in Brooklyn over the past weekend visiting my son, who recently moved there. I passed a huge building several times during the weekend. It is between Atlantic Avenue and Pacific Street on Bedford Avenue. It is a red brick building with turrets at the corners. It looks like it may be an armory, but I didn’t see any signs indicating what it was. If you do a Google Map search for 1320 Bedford Ave, Brooklyn, NY you can look at the building in Google’s Street View.

Can anyone tell me what this building is? Also, is there a way to search out answers to questions such as this on the web (other than posting a thread here)? Thanks.

Google maps attached Panoramio photo say it’s the 23rd Regiment Armory.

Wow, that was quick! Thanks.

Are munitions still stored there to this day?

According to comments on this page, it’s mostly empty but the main usage is as a men’s homeless shelter.

I think that armories are usually used, militarily, for National Guard activities these days rather than storage of arms and ammo. At least that’s the way it is in locations with which I am more familiar. They are also rented out for non-military purposes. A big one in Baltimore is the site of an annual dog show.
