Brosnan fired from Bond. Is this news?

I say that Alexis Denisof would make an excellent bond (aka Wesley from Buffy and Angel)

Ralph Macchio was nearly 30 in his last outing.

I don’t think we’ll see any future Bond that isn’t British. And I don’t mean an American doing a British accent, either. I just don’t think the fans would stand for it or by it.

I agree with Christian Bale. He may have his hands full with Batman for a bit, however.

Ahem As someone who has seen literally every Bond film made, it is clear to me that whatever actor plays Bond must be certain things. He must be attractive, British (or have a suitable accent), physically well-proportioned, suave, humorous, capable of projecting a strong air of machismo, athletic, and a mean s.o.b. at heart.
With those qualifications in mind, I offer my opinions on the following candidates:

Jude Law: Not even remotely macho. Far too nice to be suave.
Ewan McGregor: Not athletic, attractive, or suave, compared to other candidates.
Clive Owen: Wrong build, also not attractive enough.
Denzel Washington: Sorry, but Bond is not black. Like Law, Washington is also just too NICE to be Bond.
Alexis Denisof: Too bookish. Would make a better Q.
Christian Bale: None of the drawbacks of the others, save one: he’s almost TOO good looking. Bond was never a pretty boy. Similar to Law’s problem, although Bale projects menace much better. But we’re getting warmer
Hugh Jackman: My choice. He’s got it all. British-sounding accent, lean, athletic build, can project menace and machismo, can be funny, etc. He’s the guy.

Chances are though Jackman is a lot less availabl than Bale.

I’ve seen every Bond movie, too. I nominate Jason Isaacs. He can do the intelligent menace, he’s not too much of a pretty-boy, and he convincingly played a Bond-like character in The Tuxedo.

They should totally break away from the normal Bond image. Use David Spade, John Goodman, or Martha Stewart. Now that would be cool.

Gerard Butler for Bond!
(I’m with Merijeek, though, the Bond franchise needs serious help / rehab.)

Jackman. Only possible choice.

How about Sean Pertwee? Cool, thuggish, but possibly losing out in the Chablis sweepstakes. Bonus points for being a Dr. Who sproglet.

NB use of the :dubious: in a previous post is not an endorsemt for Roger Moore (who is too bussy being 77 today anyway).

I submit: Jason Statham

He’s very sexy (although a touch hair deprived, but I’m digging the bald guys lately), he has the accent, he can fight and use a gun (movie-wise, at least), and he can do all the stunt driving! He seems to have a good sense of fun about him, as well.

I will talk and Hollywood won’t listen.

*“I have no interest in acting. I think it’s a ridiculous job. I just get so self-conscious. I turn completely robotic,” the singer was quoted as saying. The singer also scoffed rumours by the British media that he could be the next James Bond. *

Bummer, I could’ve seen it have a bit more humor of the older Bond flicks with him in it.

Here’s my guess: Dougray Scott , he was the bad guy in Mission Impossible II.

Why not?
I mean, I’m not pretending that Brosnan looks much like Connery, other than they are both handsome males, so why not go whole hog? It’s not like one Bond film follows strongly from the last one.

I see Bond as having several essential qualities (In declining order of importance):
Suave
British
Witty
Badass
Competent

White’s not one of them. The only one I haven’t seen Washington do is British. If he could do it, he’d be perfect, and a needed shot in the arm for the franchise.

I disagree that Bond must be a native Briton. Connery, after all, is a Scot (IIRC).

I don’t think you understand what a Briton is. It’s not a synonym for Englishman.

Brosnan was quoted some months back as saying that he wouldn’t do another Bond film unless they replaced the writers. The writers were also quoted as saying that they were really having trouble coming up with a script.

Frankly, I think they should replace Brosnan with [url-“http://www.klast.net/bond/jason.html”]Jason Connery. He played Ian Fleming in a bio-pic, so he could do Bond, easy.

Aw, crap. here’s the link.

I don’t know … doesn’t seem right to have a James Bond who was born in Maryland.

OK, technically he’s Russian/ American. But he did spend his childhood over here, his accent is real. And he’s got the right look.

Brosnan is Irish, Connery Scots, Lazenby Australian, Dalton Welsh. Only Moore is British.
