Would you be willing to extend this scheme to me? I’m even willing to pay the entry fee. Plus I could do you a very good deal on a well-respected book on cold reading, and throw in a rather good free ‘Derren Brown style’ magic show for you and your friends, redeemable any time over the coming year.
I’m terribly sorry but I don’t think the scheme will stretch as far as London…you kind of have to live around Glastonbury! The magic show is very tempting though!
Mind you, if we can’t be bothered to go into the festival site we might decide to have a party on her roof and dance to the music. Everyone is encouraged to bring a gas mask though. If the wind blows in the right direction sound isn’t the only thing that travels in the air out of the site.
(Glastonbury+Toilets=Bad Smell).
Mmm… I can pretend to live in or near Glastonbury! No good?
Is there some reason you think you don’t like his music? You sound unsure is why I ask. What have you heard that you didn’t care for?
Need company?
Because he sounds like he’s about 15 years old, and he thinks Bruce S. is some old fart from years gone by that an old fogey like his FATHER would listen to, that’s what.
Speaking as an old fogey myself, I saw Bruce at the Carrier Dome loooong before the OP was born. The show was sold out in a matter of hours but we managed to get tickets. I say with all seriousness, no kidding: other than becoming a mother, that concert was the high point of my entire life. Nothing half so thrilling ever happened before or since. The man put on a SHOW! … Can’t say what kind of show Bruce S. puts on nowadays, but he is a legend.
Bruce Springsteen is not my favorite recording artist. I mean, I like a lot of his old stuff, but there are other bands I listen to a lot more. That said:
In the 70+ concerts I’ve seen in my lifetime, his show was the very best. The man played as though his very life depended on it. I was in the LAST ROW of the TOP TIER of Joe Louis Arena in Detroit and he rocked my socks off.
Old fogey checking in.
I’m Hippo’s father. She’s a she and older than 15. I’ve tried to convince her of the superiority of His Bruceness, but I don’t think I’m succeeding.
I worked for CBS (Columbia) here in the UK, and was peripherally involved in the fiasco in 1975, relating to posters outside the Hammersmith Odeon, where Bruce was playing, that claimed “Finally London is ready for Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band.” Bruce hated them, and tried to tear them down.
He played for two nights. The first night that all the press attended was, for some reason, a bit of a let down. Bruce just wasn’t firing on all cylinders. The second night, though, was everything that we’d heard about him. He played for hours, finishing with his rock ‘n’ roll medley. He played so late that the management of the theatre tried to close the curtains on him, while his roadies were pulling them open again. What a night!
The concert was released in 2006.
Ermmm not really sorry! Magic show or no magic show you kind of need a local postcode. But if you fancy a relocation there are some very nice properties for sale around Worthy Farm at the moment. I could even teach you a Somerset accent if you like
Well, I’m basing my judgment on the constant stream of old music my Dad plays, and so I’m unsure because I haven’t actually sat down and listened to his music myself. Everything I have heard has been in passing from my Dad. I know I do like the song that goes ‘‘Born in the USA…I was BORN in the USA…’’ (that you can nod your head up and down to and do electric air guitar dancing to). But all of the other stuff I have heard sounds a little bit, umm, similar? It all seems to blend into one long song and just sounds like noise to me (please don’t hate me for admitting that Bruce lovers).
I have noticed though that my Dad seems to be drawn to music that really all sounds very similar from the 70s. The singing is all very similar, it has a kind of droning tone to it and is sung by men who sound like they are slightly off their heads. Thats not to say I dislike all of my Dad’s music, he does have very very good taste and knows more about music than anyone else I know, but a lot of it does make me turn my nose up in disgust. Maybe thats due to being stuck in a car when I was little and having to listen to my parents music.
There is a lot of music I love because of my Dad playing it. One of my favourite bands is Fleetwood Mac, I love love love them, and The Dance is one of my favourite albums, and without my Dad I probably wouldn’t like them nearly so much. There are others like that aswell. Pink Floyd, Tears for Fears, Mogwai, The Church, Elbow, Dream Academy, Porcupine Tree, British Sea Power, Jimi Hendrix, Mew, Kate Bush, The Eagles, Genesis, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Van Morrison, Longview and Jimmy Eat World are all bands I’ve learnt to love from Dad.
However examples of the claptrap he plays that I roll my eyes to are Jefferson Aeroplane, Yes, Neil Young (though I do like ‘Like a Hurricane’), The Doors, The Byrds, Slowdive, Mostly Autumn, Piano Magic, Love, Heart, Grace Slick, and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.
I’m on the fence with The Beatles. I still can’t make up my mind about them. I guess some I love and other songs I hate.
Well I’m 24 and most definitely female. That is interesting that I come across as a male though!
