Bruce Wayne sneaks into one of my legal opinions!

Rough day at the office yesterday. Been sleeping poorly, what with summer solstice and it getting light at 3.30 am all this week.

And, had to pound out an opinion on a rush. Dear God, that tax opinion someone asked me for! I’d forgotten about it, probably intentionally. Tax is complicated and non-intuitive. It strains my brain. But, have to get it done by end of the day.

Fire up the computer, type, type, type. Taxes, taxes, taxes. Sub-section this, sub-paragraph that.

Office getting warm.

Me getting sleepy.

Yawning.

Woke up with a start. Was I auto-typing?

Looked at the screen. Yup, I was. Something along the lines of:

“Whether the tax would apply in these circumstance would depend heavily on the facts, particularly Bruce Wayne.”

I need more sleep. :eek:

Just close the office door and lay your head down on the desk…

In a previous job, when a buddy and I were scheduled to appear before the Circuit Courts, we used to place wagers on whether we would slip irrelevant phrases into our oral arguments. I remember being especially proud of how I worked “peanut butter and jelly” into an argument about Social Security disability! :wink:

The sentence is perfectly accurate as typed. Bruce Wayne can make all the difference in whether or not taxes apply in any given circumstance.

“I just received a really generous grant to research mammalian night vision. Do I have to pay taxes on that money?”

“Nah. Bruce Wayne.”

“Oh, good point. Good point.”

When in doubt, always invoke Chewbacca.

LOL!

::wake up::
::rub face::
Why does my skin feel so lumpy?

If it’s about Gotham City tax law it makes sense. Bruce Wayne’s wealth is a substantial portion of the city’s tax base not to mention his philanthropic activities which substantially reduce the need and cost for many social services. You have to be careful about what you right though, people in that city seem to be totally unaware that he is Batman.

Well, Wayne Enterprises corporate taxes are pretty problematic. There’s a lot of R&D expenses that are hard to justify from a bottom-line point of view, not to mention all those “advanced military prototypes” that are always being written off after being mysteriously “destroyed during testing”.

Just follow it with “Despite all the negative press covfefe” and you’ll be all right.

A covfefe press?

W00t! I managed to sleep in to 5:30 am today! No sign of Bruce the past couple of days. Must be hosting some philanthropic event or something.
