Bruce Williams (talk radio Hall of Famer) dies

Surely someone in DoperLand remembers him? I was a big fan. He had a boatload of common sense and a warm, amusing way of dispensing it.

He died Saturday at the age of 86.

I sure enjoyed him. In a former life I was a traveling salesman, and I would listen to his show out on the lonely highway at night. RIP Bruce.

I’ve missed hearing him on the radio for a long time. Count me as another big fan.

Oh, that’s too bad! He was one of my very favorites from the old Talk Net days, 30 years ago? Being harangued and lectured by the appalling Dr. Laura all day, being soothed and reassured by Bruce Williams at night. (I think he was recently writing a column about money and such online, in that group with Dear Abby and Miss Manners).

During a days long power outage in the northeast, I listened to him on my little Walkman radio in the evening. He had a call-in show, and he said 'We go to Central New York State, hello, Joe! …I’ve been getting more calls from Central NY State in the last two days than I have all year. I guess your power is still out up there! (meaning we here, in the dark, had nothing but time to call up Bruce Williams and finally ask those tax questions!) '. I loved his voice, he always sounded so wise and reassuring, like the actor playing an uncle on a soap opera.

It looks like archived episodes of Bruce are available via podcast. Can’t link from my phone, just do the Google. I am going to listen to some of these when I get a chance.

“Welcome to my world.”
