I recall seeing a trailer at the theater, about 3 years ago, for a Bruce Willis movie titled “Apocalypse.” I know there is a video game, starring Bruce Willis, by the same title, but what happened to the movie? I have neither heard, nor seen, anything about it since that one trailer. It was not an ad for the game.
What’s the Straight Dope on this? Did anyone else see the trailer? 
I think you’re remembering “Armageddon,” which was one of the top movies of '98. Not so realistic, but a reasonably good high-action disaster flick.

Sorry guys, but I know I am not confused with Armageddon. My mom also recalls seeing the same trailer, and it was playing after Armageddon was off-screen. Armageddon was released in the summer of 1998, and this was almost a year later. I am not thinking of The Fifth Element either. I remember talking to someone else who said they had heard of “Apocalypse” but that it had gotten “lost” in a legal mess.
It would be really strange if a movie, which would have to cost a lot of money if it starred Bruce Willis within the past several years, would be buried so deeply that it wouldn’t get a mention in the Internet Movie Database. The IMDb is too thorough for that. I have a theory. Suppose that a trailer was made for the game Apocalypse (which, as you say, used Bruce Willis in it). The trailer was designed so that you wouldn’t realize that it was for a video game rather than a movie until it was almost over. You watched this trailer and missed the part at the end where it was announced that it was a game.
I gotta think you just saw a “trailer” commercial. They weren’t nearly as common three years ago but they did exist. Neither IMDb nor the official Activision web site mention a movie on which the game was based (or vice versa).
1997 and 1999 are very different in my mind. if you’re confusing them, maybe you’re confusing this with something else.
Is it possible you saw a trailer for the game itself? I seem to remember some trailer like this, but it was actually for the game… played in the theatres and everything, I think.
