He was always an entertaining guest on talk shows, too. His Letterman appearances were a hoot.
He was unbearbly funny in the deleted sceen where he was stoned.
That’s my favorite too…“Don’t. say. a. word.” And “Tell me I’ll never have to be out there again.” “You’ll never have to be out there again.”
“Oh, and ‘baby fish mouth’ is sweeping the nation??”
That’s how I best remember him — “I’m not just a cop! I’m a COP ON THE EDGE!”
That is a great eulogy. Like the author, I loved Kirby’s appearances on the Larry Sanders Show, in which he skewered his own status as a sort-of-famous supporting player.
And, of course, he was in Godfather II, the movie at the top of my “best movies ever” list. Even among hollywood stars, 99% of actors will never appear in anything that good.
