Many years ago, I picked up a book at a yard sale-sadly, it has been lost. It was an account of a small expedition to the interior of the island of Borneo. It took place sometime in the 1930’s (the book was definately pre-WWII).
At any rate, these guys endured many hardships (they came up a river as far as possible, then hiked). When they arrived in the center of the island, they found evidence of an earlier civilization (ancient statues of hindu gods).
Anyway, have any modern explorers ever found evidence of an advanced civilization on Borneo? As far as I know, the inhabitants are fairly primative people (the Dyaks), who until recently practiced headhunting and ritual cannibalism.
