Hot DAMN this is a fun game! I knew I was going to love it purely because it was Buffy, but I had no idea it was really going to be a fantastic game in its own right. Has anyone else played it?
I was up until two in the morning last night, I couldn’t put the damn controller down. Sunnydale needed my help!
Hell, I bought an Xbox specifically for this game. (Well, this and Halo.) Very cool game. Really captured the spirit of the TV show, has some genuinely funny lines, the girl they found to do Buffy’s voice actually sounds a lot like Buffy. My only real complaint is there is often way, way too much time between save points, especially in the later levels which have a lot of jumping puzzles. Other than that, it’s a fantastic game.
I thought it was fun for about 15 minutes and then I got stuck in a room with a couple of bails of hay and a locked door. Try as I might, I could NOT find that stupid key so I turned the game off and never played it again.
Heck yeah, Miller, I’m on the docks stage now and I had to fight four tough vamps (not the high school chumps), a shrimp demon, two more tough vamps, then that lousy psycho guy from the Bronze. I don’t know how many times I had to redo that one… damn.
I wish they would have set the stage for the game in the instructions or at the beginning… the game is basically like an episode (or three) which seems to take place some time in season 3. I also agree about Buffy’s voice, I had to double check the credits because I almost couldn’t believe it wasn’t SMG.
Favorite line so far is from Willow: “Kind of like an energy bar, only it won’t upset your stomach.” Tee-hee!
Yeah, the docks are really (really, really, really) hard. I think there are two or three more shrimp demons after the giant vampire. I finally got through it by stocking up on flaming arrows for the crossbow and using them to kill the shrimp demons as quickly as possible. Use the hellfire squirtgun, too. Avoid going hand-to-hand with them, it’ll just wear you out.
Right now I’m stuck on (I think) the second to last level. Only one tough fight (at the very end of the level, natch) but there are three different, difficult jumping puzzles between the start of the level and that last fight. And, of course, one false step at any point along the way equals instant death! %&!!@% jumping puzzles. There oughta be a law: you can either have save points, or you can have jumping puzzles, but under no circumstance should you have both of them in the same game.
Gah, tell me about the Shrimp Demons. I’m at a spot where I fight two of them at once which has proven frustrating to the point of swearing profusely and very loudly. Were I a younger, less mature man I would throw that damn controller across the room!
I’ve been hoping to conserve my hellfire bolts, but I think you are right. I’ve tried so many tactics against them and no matter what happens they surround me and get me in some viscious tag-team combination attack. Grr. Last night they decided, multiple times, to beat me in such a manner that moved me to the edge of the dock and then knocked me off. Of course Buffy can’t swim
Much agreed on the insta-deaths in general (falling from something). The sunken church got me a few times.
Oh, Miller, Miller, Miller… I just beat the game last night, but it took me three days to get through that stinkin’ dreamer realm. Hail Eris, that was a nasty, nasty board. And that last jumping puzzle with the three platforms should have been the first thing on the board. Damn that puzzle!
And was it just me or was the placement of the giant spinning-blades-o’-death sometimes closer to the ledge than others? Some times I would climb up and get hacked, and others it was no problem…
Great game. I’m playing though again now, trying to find all the secrets I’ve missed. Have you read up on the Arenas? That’s a fun little task.
