Buffalo Wing

Why do we call buffalo wings that when they are from chickens?

They are named after the city Buffalo, NY.

History of Buffalo Wings.

You could have answered that question by either Googling on the phrase “Buffalo wings” or doing a search for threads containing the phrase “Buffalo wings”, since we have discussed that topic several times already.

It’s her second post, cut her some slack.

And third.

Whatever comes after third.

Well, if chickens can have nuggets and fish can have fingers, I don’t see why buffalo can’t have wings.

Here is a more comprehesive history from Buffalo’s Anchor Bar where they were invented in 1964.

Down here in South Carolina, they are not called Buffalo Wings because of the extreme abhorrence of anything considered “Yankee.” (There are still towns here in SC that are talking about the lull in the “War of Northern Agression”) They are simply known as Hot Wings or “Wangs,” as in the phrase, “Let’s go get some wangs, Bo.”

Let’s not scare yadayadagirl off… she may have the next great thread floating aound in her head just waiting to get out!

While the Anchor Bar may have indeed been the originator of that style of wings, the term “Buffalo wings” almost certainly wasn’t applied to the type of food until sometime in the mid-late 1970’s. They almost certainly just were called “hot wings,” even in Buffalo until well after their introduction.

We’re not just answering quesitions here. We’re teaching people to learn how to answer questions by themselves. One of the instructions given for General Questions is that people should try things like Google, searching for threads on the subject, searching Cecil’s answers, searching IMDb, etc., before they start a thread about something. I was being very polite in my previous post.

I just asked that because I told my sister that people answer everything you asked on this site with in an hour. Thanks for proving me right.

We’ve been played!
