Build an acoustic set list for my 13 yr old daughter to play at a cookout

Just the observation that HCtSun has a couple of deceptively-tough time-signature changes that repeat throughout the song. It is possible to fake one’s way through a straight 4/4 version - but you need to consciously choose to approach it that way and figure out how to handle the parts that are normally in different times.

Beyond that, I am hearing that the ideas I was suggesting didn’t leap off the page  Best of luck with your daughter’s performance!

She needs at least one song each from Roger Miller and John Denver. “You can’t Roller Skate in a Buffalo Herd” or “Kansas City Star” from Miller are both popular ones that people will sing along with. For Denver just about anything will do, but Grandma’s Feather Bed is a good family group song. John Denver is the most requested artists at my husband’s gigs. (he’s an acoustic singer/songwriter.)

If she’s got a friend or family member to duet with Bare Naked Ladies “If I Had a Million Dollars” is a lot of fun.

My husband is having a cookout for his birthday with he and his musical friends jamming and performing. I’m sure all of these songs will show up in somebody’s set list somewhere.

Challenge her! Alice’s Restaurant

Angel from Montgomery

Here is a good guitar lesson for the song:

I guess nowadays “Draft Dodger’s Rag” and “Vietnam Potluck Blues” might not go over as well as they did back in the day.

Bad, Bad, Leroy Brown” (C-D7-E7-F G7-C or G-A7-B7-C-D7-G)

Cover of the Rolling Stone

I Am a Pilgrim

Cotton Fields

Hey, Good Lookin’

Oops I Did It Again?

I recommend some Dave Matthews with Tim Reynolds. They have played some awesome acoustical songs. Live at Luther College is wicked awesome.

MtM

Still Alive from Portal.

Also form Jonathan Coulton

Alison Krauss-Now That I Found You
Ane Brun-The Treehouse Song
The Be Good Tanyas-The Littlest Birds
The Beach Boys-Don’t Worry Baby
The Bee Gees-How Deep is your Love

Hey everyone thanks so much! She and I are going to sit down this week and give these a listen. Much appreciated. I love discovering new music other people love.

Well?
