My name is Sheila Green and I’m a graduate student at Columbia University’s school of Journalism. For my master’s project I’m producing a radio documentary on bullying.
I’m trying to find people in the New York City area who would be willing to sit down with me for an interview or two about their experiences. I’m looking for parents of bullied kids, kids who are dealing with bullies, teachers and adults who were bullied as kids.
Welcome to the boards. I’m not from New York, so can’t give you an interview, but I had to deal with bullies at one time in my life and can tell you that it can seriously damage one’s self esteem. I believe it’s why I hate Republicans.
Dumb question, is this going to be a “feel good” one sided documentary, since there is no desire to actually talk to “bullies”. I was bullied quite a bit, and did some of my own, when I was a kid it seemed to get handed down, 7th grader bullies me, me(5th) bullies 3rd grader, 3rd grader bullies 1st grader. I wouldn’t be surprised if the 7th grader was getting crap from a HS freshman who was getting crap from a senior, who was embarassed by the guy who should have been a sophmore in college but is a janitor, that still goes to keggers and hangs out in parking lots.
Just a thought, take it for whats its worth.
Sheila,
Don’t assume that bullies and victims are actually two separate classes of shoolkid. I was both, and so were the vast majority of kids I went to school with back in the day.
