bumper sticker 70.2

I’ve seen several bumper stickers around time with just numbers and decimals on them. I saw one car with two numbers, one exactly twice as big as the other. I don’t remember the exact numbers, but it was something like 70.2 and 140.4

What does this mean?

They correspond to mile markers in the Florida Keys. The only road through the Keys is Highway 1, which starts at mile marker 0 in Key West. Pretty much every address down there is given by mile marker.

So, they’re probably people who have visited or lived down there and have the marker of where they were.

Oh, one other possibility. If it says 26.2 then it means the driver is a marathon runner (since a marathon is 26.2 miles). I would guess there may be 13.1 stickers for half-marathons.

If they are 70.3 and 140.6, those are the distances of the half-ironman and ironman distance triathlons respectively.

Bingo. I got the 140.6 for my Wife for Christmas. She completed her first full IronMan in May.

Wow. Giver her my congrats. That’s an awesome accomplishment. I do a few Oly’s ever year just for incentive to keep my training up but am considering doing a half this fall (Big Kahuna in Santa Cruz).

I’ve seen a few like that around, and they were the frequency numbers of FM radio stations. But they usually had the station name there too, though sometimes in much smaller print.
