I saw this on DVD last night and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the movie. I did a search on this film but found nothing more than “favourite foreign films” listings so I decided to start a thread.
Who else here has seen this wonderful gem of a film? It is not one that I will easily forget, so I’m looking for others who enjoyed this film as much as I did.
For those who have no idea what this film is about, it tells the story of a high school teacher whose teenage male student reminds him of his first love, who suddenly disappeared one night, 17 years before. The synopsis may not sound very interesting, but I wouldn’t want to reveal the plot twist too much.
For those interested, you can get the DVD for US$13.25 at YesAsia.com.
Unfortunately, I haven’t seen this film yet, but I have been trying! I read some very positive reviews about it a while ago, and some of my Korean friends also recommended it. I was in South Korea a little over a year ago and tried to find the DVD, but I was told that it was no longer in print. I also tried searching online, but it was sold out at all of the shops I checked. Perhaps I will give YesAsia.com a look.
By the way, if you are interested in any other South Korean films, I previously made a few recommendations in this thread: Please recommend some movies from 2nd/3rd world countries.
Have you seen any other good South Korean films? There have been some excellent ones, particularly during the last few years.
I didn’t realize Korea was a 2nd/3rd world country. Huh. Anyway, have you seen Old Boy? It’s supposed to be quite good. I have yet to get it from my local Korean grocery store (faster than waiting for it to be released here), but it’s high on my list.
Neither did I.
I think there was some confusion over what constituted a 2nd or 3rd world country in that thread, and it just turned into a general discussion of good foreign films from any country.
I haven’t seen it yet, but I have heard both good and bad things about it. Although it has a very high rating on the IMDb, several of the written reviews are extremely critical. At any rate, I will probably rent it eventually to see for myself.
Vision of Love, I just wanted to thank you for encouraging me to buy yet another DVD which will be added to my huge stack of unwatched movies.
Actually picked up a copy this at Play-Asia.com where it was slightly cheaper. Of course, while I was there I had to get a copy of The Quiet Family (watched The Happiness of the Katakuris last night), Old Boy, and the John Woo two-pack of The Killer and Hard Boiled.
Yep, thanks a lot!
