I have been playing around with yachts on the internet for a year now. I am a complete wannabe, no real experience. Further I am (or was) an Old Panama Hand, having living there for many years. This story combines the two.
The Star Princess, a cruise ship passed by a little Panamanian fishing boat out of Rio Hato (my old stomping grounds). She had lost engine power (we are talking an outboard on an open boat here). The Star Princess sailed right on by. She did not report the men waving at them. They offered no help. The left them to die.
Princess Lines says the officer on duty did not notice the boat in distress. Shame the passengers all did. So the line is saying the captain violated the first rule of the road, “keep a sharp lookout always.”
Flipping idiots. Nothing in the world is finer than saving life at sea. Nothing is crueler than turning away from sailors in need.
Screw the skipper. He needs to be jailed.
