Burt played Paulie and was a important part of the Rocky movie franchise.
I had forgotten Burt was nominated for an Academy Award. I always enjoyed seeing him in various roles.
He had a very long and successful career in many movies.
RIP

Man, he’s one of those guys I thought was already dead. He looked ancient in his episodes of the Sopranos and that was 20 years ago.
Burt was in Amityville II (1982) and The Amityville Murders (2018) but played different characters.
I remember his role in Convoy (1978) with Kris Kristofferson and Ernie Borgnine. I watched it again last year. Its lots of fun and celebrated the CB radio craze. I had one in my car. ![]()
He was the fuckin’ Terminator.
I thought so too. Put him down as another “Abe Vigoda” type.
RIP, Burt. I enjoyed you in everything I saw you in. The “Can I have a glass of water?” scene in The Sopranos was a classic!
Burt Young was a Marine. And a decent boxer in his day.
Semper Fidelis, Burt Young. Rest well my brother.
I always picture him as Mac, the tough but sensitive merc driver/gunman sidekick to James Caan in the original Killer Elite (kind of a cult favorite of mine for its over-the-top violent, but semi-straight-faced nuttiness with the likes of ninjas against machine guns fighting on the old mothball fleet in Suisun Bay). Quite the career.
RIP.
Stallone comments were very kind. It’s been over 30 years since they worked together on Rocky V.
Opening line in my favorite movie ever.
Had a smallish part in Once Upon a Time in America that was absolutely inspired. A genius in small character actor roles.
he was great as a starship pilot in an episode of the 90’s Outer Limits
I didn’t realize he was the real deal. I doubt Cus D’Amato would waste his time on a no talent bum.
(quoting Rocky)
Studying with Lee Strasburg is impressive too. It explains why Burt’s characters in movies were so memorable.
Always good to see him in a film, “Hey Burt Young / Paulie” and he didn’t play too many bad guys but even when he did - like “Bed Bug Eddie” in “The Pope of Greenwich Village” it was a good part for him (and Mickey Rourke and Eric Roberts were badder)
