There’s probably some fear, but I think a lot of it simply that people are blind sheep when it comes to their party. And no, I do not just mean Republicans. Most folks do a little thinking (if that), choose a party they like for whatever reason, and stop doing any more thinking except to justify their original decision. There’s too much painful cognitive dissonance to admit that the horse you backed is actually a rabid weasel.
