You left out the vegetarian bit.
And the dogs! Does Bush consort with German Shepherds too?
The “Bush Sucks” threads are getting the Godwin treatment now.
It could be worse. They could be thinking of doing a remake of “The Producers”. Oh, wait…
Don’t forget Godwin.
The Bush-Hitler comparison is done with the intent to offend people. Kind of juvenile, and they don’t seem to realize that they may be offending people who are sensitive to the issue of the Holocaust.
It’s nothing more than a sucker-punch, making their own point come across as that of a crybaby instead of someone who may have valid political input.
It’s not much of a secЯet … er … secяet.
I suggest you read this part of the OP (emphasis added):
If “conservatives” on these very boards act thusly, it’s more likely because it is not uncommon for lefties on these very boards to make the comparison. Just read this very thread on this very board…
You’re right - it’s clearly insane to compare Saddam Hussein, the leader of a totalitarian, expansionist, fascist country, who modeled his secret police explicitly on the Nazi regime, and who engaged in genocide against his own people, with Hitler.
Besides, it distracts from the much more valid comparisons of George Bush with Hitler.
FDR:
-Invade sovereign nation under false pretenses - check
-Practice torture on captured enemy - check
-Violate civil liberties of populace -check
Well Hitler is not the only villain in the world. There is plenty of room for villains.
I disagree that Bush is incompetent. I think most people are duped by him, and that he’s actually quite intelligent, and is playing a bungling act so that they can hide a very devious agenda, and convince a certain number of people that they were honest mistakes.
Hitler wanted to exterminate people. Bush wants to dominate people, extermination isn’t part of his modus operandi, but he certainly doesn’t care if a few plebes die in the process. Bush is aristocratic lack of compassion taken to a fine art. Hitler actively hated people and wanted them dead. I don’t think Bush hates me, I just think he doesn’t give two shits about me. Whereas Hitler might well have hated me. Though, I am 6’ and have blue eyes, but dark hair.

Good point, Finn. Everyone knows Hussein is more akin to Stalin, Mao or Castro (mass murderers of their own people) than he is to Hitler.
I guess they just don’t carry the same cachet:
Bush: “Hussein is the modern day Mao!”
USA: “Zzzzzz…”
or, alternatively from rjung, et al:
“Hussein isn’t a fucking communist, you stupid ass, Diebold-sucking, rightwing nutjob idiot motherfucker!”
Full stop.
Genocide has a rather specific definition, wouldn’t you say? One that you’re either ignoring or misusing?
And by the way, there are many “totatitarian, fascist” countries who we support right now. Are they Hitlers? Does that make us an Axis power, Sam? Did it when we were supporting Sadaam?
Or is it simply okay to make such an absurd comparison because a Republican did it?
P.S. As virtually my entire extended family was butchered in Ha’Shoah I think I am perfectly qualified to tell people to stop whining about how ‘insulting’ the comparision is. It’s just an analogy for fuck’s sake, it’s not particularly accurate, deal.
My point, in a roundabout way, was that analogy is always suspect. We can draw comparisons between Bush and Hitler just as we could between Bush and Micky Mouse. The problem is, and what I saw being discussed by the OP, is when the inaptness of such comparisons, either currently or in the past, is used as a cognitive-dissonance-shield instead of looking at the facts of the matter.
Likewise, since the analogy isn’t very tight, it’s some sloppy rhetoric to compare almost anybody to Hitler. What people really mean though, and what should be obvious, is that such comparisons are an attempt to relate their revulsion at the actions of certain people, be it Sadaam or Bush. Bush’s deceptions about war do not rise to the level of a planned campaign of extermination, but nonetheless, they are and should be quite disturbing. As were Sadaam’s actions.
Lincoln:
-Invade sovereign nation under false pretenses - check*
-Practice torture on captured enemy - check
-Violate civil liberties of populace -check
- (ify, but the Confederacy considered themselves a soverign nation, and would absolutely consider forcing their continued membership in a union they eschewed as a false pretense…close enough)
Who’s next? Kennedy seems to fit the bill too, or should we pin Vietnam on Johnson? Why not both? Hey, this is fun!
Comparisons between Bush and Hitler are ludicrous. Hitler was a highly decorated - and several times wounded - war veteran with an ascetic personal life that a saint might envy; Bush was a draft-dodging drunk.
True. I was just snarking around a little, poking fun at the way the country would have reacted to such an analogy (Mao, that is), and the way the rabid lefties do as well.
And your an ignorant, partisan dumbass.
Hey! Case = Reeder!
The OP is ass backwards and upside down. But, I could be wrong in my reading. Please, let me try and put it in my own words.
The OP is pitting a subset Republicans because they are a very vocal group on the internet and are incredulous that a subset of Democrats are trying to equate Bush to Hitler.
I should pit the OP for being an idiot and wasting Internet bandwidth for expressing his stupidity to us all.
His an ignorant?
