Yeah, I’m talking about the guy Robin Williams made that movie about. It seems he has some views about recent US activities he wanted to share. I’m not really for jumping all over people’s backs at any perceived criticism of America, but I do think this might just be a bit harsh, maybe.
Yep, a thousand-year worldwide totalitarian reich and the total elimination of people of “inferior races” isn’t that big a vision. Pretty small potatoes as visions go, really. It’s nothing compared to trying to get leaders of other countries to maybe not let people living there plan and organize the deaths of thousands of people in one’s own country. Now that’s really evil.
But the opinions of Patch Adams aren’t really much to get worked up about. I mean, c’mon, it’s Patch Adams. This is only in the Pit because I’m sure others may wish to address this more … aggressively than I did, and I certainly wouldn’t want to get in the way of that. Normally, I’d call Patch an a asshole now, but I’m open to the possibility that he saw Robin’s movie and something in his brain snapped.
I had the distinct misfortune of meeting this guy before the movie came out. He gave a talk at our school and was hands down the creepiest SOB I have ever met. He encouraged people to tell the audience their deepest secrets. One fellow came out (there were about fifty people there) and I’ll never forget Patch exhorting us to “Touch him, touch him everyone”. The end result was about thirty people in a circle rubbing their hand all over the guy.
I mean hey whatever works for you but I beat a hasty exit. He showed up at a campus party later the same night and a girl came up and hugged him and he leaned over and licked her on the face. It didn’t strike me as sexual, more like a greeting from Mars. I still don’t which is worse, seeing him in a movie or actually seeing him in action.
Hitler consolidated his power legally. He had the Reichtag burnt down, and threw congress into a frenzy, blaming it on comunist exremists. Congress then gave him dictatorial powers to fight those extremists.
Bush is consolidating his power legally. He uses the attack on WTC to throw the public and congress into a frenzy, blaming it on muslim extremists. Congerss then gives him wartime powers, which he will eventually extend to dictatorial powers.
People in USA are so blinded by Nationalism (aka patriotism, aka Nazism) that they wont see it comming (Bush dictatorship).
Allready majoroty of Americans are willing to give up some of their hard earned rights for security.
The media is becoming increasingly pro-government. It is now more closely aligned with the execution and maintenance of government policy than ever before. Media now has a direct vested financial interest in maintaining the naivete of the American people. They don’t have to present “both” sides. Even their pretension of being an independent body is finished. The media, the great Fourth Estate, has now abandoned any pretense of being the “devil’s advocate” or challenging the policies of the US government. They don’t even present any challenging viewpoints anymore. All who disagree have now been labeled as “threats” to the security of the State.
After the Bush Administration has passed all the legislation it wants, it will consolidate its newly found power and then the hype will begin to cool down. The first sign that the Bush Administration has absolute dictatorial authority will be when they no longer hype the situation - because they don’t have to.
Tell you what, Hoe-ster. When Bush starts rounding up millions of people he doesn’t like 'cause of their religion/nationality/sexual orientation, putting them in death camps, sending them to gas chambers, planning their total annihalation, then you can start comparing him to Hitler, and tell us you told us so, k? Patriotism does NOT equal Nazism, you ignorant shit. Most of us can be proud and supportive of the place we live, while still respecting the rights of others. It takes the narrowminded like you to think otherwise.
I’m curious, although I should probably know better. DNFTT, and all that. But how exactly does my post prove your point? Because I call you on your lame comparison? Because I question how you can dare compare Bush to one of the worst mass-murderers of all time? Because I question the blatant and ridiculous untruth that patriotism equals Nazism, which you keep saying but have yet to back up with a shred of coherence?
I’m really interested. Please. Enlighten us.
Oh, and not that it should matter, but I’m not a flagwaver; I constantly question my government, and I did not nor will I ever vote for Bush. I just call ‘asshole’ when I see one.
Yeah, but everyone knows that not being patriotic equals Communism. Now we’re going to have to get into that whole tedious “Who was worse, Hitler or Stalin (and what about Mao?)” debate again.
