Actually, I thought the debate was “Are the Mods as bad as Hitler, Stalin and Mao, or are the Mods worse?”

I enjoyed your post very much. It is a fantastic mixture of fantasy and crap, fantacrap if you will. It never fails to amuse me how in one breath people will be telling Americans that we can’t understand world affairs because we’re not involved in those areas of the world and haven’t seen for ourselves what’s going on; then in the next breath they’re dictating to us how our system of government and media works. Bush and Hitler come from totally opposite spectrums of politics; the roots of the Nazi party were founded in the German socialist movement, which was based on the idea of heavy government control and involvement on all levels of administration. Bush comes from the Republican party who’s platform is centered around less government control, distribution of power back to the states, more in the vein of the federal republic that was initially envisioned by the framers.
Now, I’m not going to debate the merits or failings of that type of government, but it runs counter to what you’re talking about. Republican’s get a lot of flak, and often rightfully so, for slashing social programs, decentralizing controls, relaxing restrictions on industry and the like. In essence, giving away governmental power in favor of letting the free-market and the states manage themselves. How can that coexist with your idea of taking more and more control over the country? Which is it? How are they expanding power by distributing it to the states? That just doesn’t make sense.
The media here did go through a period where it was too US friendly, but good God is the honeymoon over. Have you been paying attention to the news here? They’ve been on a feeding frenzy for days about ridiculous accusations that Bush knew of impending attacks and did nothing to prevent them (never mind the lack of actionable intelligence). The Democrats have been rattling their sabers and preaching to media outlets since pretty much day one about their objections to Ashcroft and his ilk. None of this stuff is going on behind closed doors like you’re insinuating. It’s all regurgitated and pulsated through the news ad museum until we’re all sick of it. We’ve seen so much procedure and conflict in our government in the past six months that I never want to hear about another bill again.
What threats to the state are you talking about? Can you cite an example of some media figure or objector being rounded up and arrested? Or are you running away with this inflammatory, unfounded idea so much that you just tossed that out without any specificity? The fact is that the Nazi comparison is a healthy warning, but you’re overextending it by laying it down as fact. The idea that this country and this government with all its internal power struggles would acquiesce to a Bush dictatorship is laughable at bets. We don’t control Washington and nobody really does. Christ, we can’t get these monkeys together long enough to agree on their own pay raises, I’d be shocked if they could put together this conspiracy you’re insinuating.
Bush hasn’t been getting through his legislation lately, it’s been tougher than ever. But again you’re so ground into this metaphor that you won’t let the idea go. You know what really annoys me? People like you tossing out these baseless, unfounded accusations and wild fantasies of Nazis and fascists obscure the real discussion. These ARE issues that we should be talking about in the open, we SHOULD be questioning anything and everything our government does, but nonsense like this only serves to polarize the argument and drive people to want to revert to a primitive us versus them mentality.
Analyze issues logically, take them point by point but get the hell out of the dialog if you can’t do it without summoning up these ghosts of history and trying to project them on events to serve whatever your ends are. You’re taking up space that would be better concerned by dissenters that actually take the time to understand the situation and deal with individual issues.
I think Bush is a bit of an idiot, and I voted for the other guy, but comparing him to Hitler is beyond stupid.
C’mon folks (at least you who have been around for awhile). Don’t you remember hoe? It was bj0rn’s dumber, more antagonistic, and psychotically anti-American buddy from the earliest days of the non-AOL SDMB.
If every U.S. citizen gave away all their possessions to members of the third world tomorrow morning, then committed seppeku, hoe would be back here posting that they were just doing it as a way to contaminate the rest of the world with their materialism.
You are not going to get a coherent discussion from it, so keep that in mind if you choose to engage it in “debate.”
From the article: "Zi held the event in conjunction with the Thomas Merton Center to provide an alternative to mainstream political thought. "
Got that one right. Comparing Bush to Hitler certainly represents an alternative to actual thought.
Right. Cos someone with Jewish parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents has NO clue what Nazism is.
Go crawl back under your fucking bridge.
[sub]Anamorphic? Please feel free to smack me at any time, but this just pissed me off.[/sub]

This just in!
2+2=5!
Red+Yellow=Blue!
Hoe+Computer=Intelligent posts on a message board!
I sure like how Hoe seems to think that Bush was responsible for the WTC attacks. “I never said that!” you say? It was sure implied in your Hitler comparison, chuckles.
(Fantacrap… sounds like a type of soda, too. :D)
Don’t blame me, I voted for Kodos.
Way to hijack the thread, Hoe!
Are you saying they weren’t muslim extremists? What, pray tell, were they?
I should know better than to ask these questions. I really should.
You know, I’d ignored this thread 'cause, well, it was kinda like seeing a thread saying “wonder bread is tasteless”, ya know?
and then a pal suggested that I check out the latest, well, you know.
So, here I am. Just in case you wondered, I’ll be over here in the “liberal but not a fucking lunatic” section. Ordering a nice Brie & fruit Appetizer and sipping a Chardoney.
I like Brie. Especially with thin slices of pear. I think I’d order champagne to go with it, but it’s a bit early yet.
Adolf Hitler was a megalomaniac who´s aim was the conquest of Europe. George W. Bush is a megalomaniac who´s aim is the conquest of the planet.
Adolf Hitler was a racist who managed to murder millions of people in machines made for geniside to further his idea of the masterrace.
George W. Bush is a “patriot” who uses economic sactions and war to further his idea of the master nation.
Natzism is a word for national socialism. National socialism is the idea that one race/nationality is better than other and emphasises national unity.
Patriotism is a word embedded in nationalism. Patriotism is the idea the your nation is better than others and emphasises national unity.
Nationalism and patriotism are two words that describe the same idea.
The United States state in the Pentagon mission statement that the aim of the nation is to maintain the economic and millitairy superiority in the world, with economic or/and millitairy means.
Hitlers aim was the conquest of Europe, Bushes aim is the conquest of the world.
Bushes dream is lager than Hitlers!
Ah. The Oktoberfest connection. How could I have been so blind?
Screw the possesives, full speed ahead.
Hoe, go play in traffic.
I don’t know that Brie goes all that well with pears, conventional wisdom aside. I think the Brie’s too overpowering for the subtle flavor of a really good Comice pear.
Maybe apple would be a better choice. Or, if we ditch the Brie, might I suggest an aged gouda to go with the pears and a nice rhiesling?
And speaking of cheese: anyone else notice how dumb Hoe is?
Has anyone tried eating really good grapes with gruyere? Yum!
Or toasted bread, rubbed with garlic cloves, drizzled with olive oil and melted gorgonzola cheese on top? Yum!

You realize that if he gets run over while playing in traffic, it’ll be Amerika’s fault for inventing cars.
Thanks, Coldie, you’ve just given him rant-fodder for another several months!
Fenris
America invented cars? Hey, I’ll be the last one to get in the way of a well-deserved ass-kicking, but I gotta say mr. Karl Benz is probably spinning in his grave right now.
So, I guess since the car is a German invention, Hoe will now come up with a theory of how Hitler (1889 - 1945) has influenced the invention of the automobile (1885).
Hoe, did you go to the same school that lobley went to?
Methinks the title of the this thread should be edited to “Hoe says a Very Stupid Thing.”
…and your posts are “fucking jokes” whether you intended them to be or not.
You must be very careful now, for the secret police are now keeping tabs on you since you’ve uncovered Bush’s plans. Don’t answer any knocks on your door in the middle of the night.
