They’re not? Who is then? The people? That’s grade school stuff. The people don’t even exist. It’s at best a bad metaphor. The people who run things might from time to time have particularly serious interfactional squabbles, but it sure as hell isn’t going to be over torturing brown people or killing a million or two foreigners.
BTW, has anyone on this board (or Daily Kos etc.) called for Obama to be prosecuted as a war criminal since he’s extending and in many cases strengthening several of Bush’s policies?
Please. Bush and friends hurt plenty of Americans, hurt the country; lied to Congress (but, like tobacco company executives, you apparently get an exception to the law against that if you are a Republican). There’s a whole system out there besides the President which is supposed to be “the law”.
Probably. Are you under the illusion that the Left likes him?
You’re still stuck in the two party thing, which is a little silly. I thought you’re supposed to abandon that when you get to such an advanced America hating stage.
Yeah. That’s what I mean when I say it doesn’t make sense, institutionally. The entire modern apparatus of state power, including the media and the financial sector – they so deeply care about Bush’s crimes, right? Anyday now they’re going to really hammer him and his former administration, or something.
Like I said, I can understand being pissed, but I can’t understand the expectations people have about something happening. I have no idea where that comes from. I mean I do, but even on a site like this I didn’t think the denial and appeals to some illusory golden age of America went that deep.
Like Nixon, he got in trouble for fucking with Democrats, not for killing hundreds of thousands of Asians or wasting money or soldiers. And even then it’s not like he was executed or did serious jail time or anything. Nor did anyone else connected to Vietnam, or any other American adventure. Usually what happens is the entire American media reaches the conclusion that whatever happened was a mistake (like spilling milk) and washes their hands of it. Exactly what will happen here. Assuming we don’t win, natch.
They don’t like him as much as they used to, but the fire is gone from their eyes. Especially after he tossed some healthcare crumbs. Not that I would assume otherwise given that he’s on their team, just like I wouldn’t assume the system would give a shit about Bush trying to control the ME.
