Gotta love it:
U.S. President George W. Bush made Iran a charter member of his axis of evil, accuses it of sheltering al-Qaida and leads the charge to thwart Tehran’s nuclear ambitions – but still got an Iranian endorsement Tuesday over Democrat John Kerry.
“We should not forget that most sanctions and economic pressures were imposed on Iran during the time of [former Democratic U.S. President Bill] Clinton,” Rowhani said. “And we should not forget that during Bush’s era – despite his hard-line and baseless rhetoric against Iran – he didn’t take, in practical terms, any dangerous action against Iran.”
Though Iran generally does not publicly wade into U.S. presidential politics, it has a history of preferring Republicans over Democrats, who tend to press human rights issues.
That is sooooo funny. especially in light of those lame “Ten out of Ten Terrorists Support Kerry” bumperstickers.
Tsk, tsk, Republicans. Tsk, tsk, indeed.
For the sake of completeness, I should point out that the Bush campaign has not accepted the endorsment. It doesn’t make it any less wonderful though
I’m really surprised that the conservatives haven’t tried to latch on to the fact that the US communist party endorses Kerry.
Reminds me of that movie “Head of State”
“I’m the Grand Wizard of the KKK and I support (can’t remember character’s name)”

Not that I distrust the Sovie er, Russ er, Associated Press, but IranMania offers a slightly different story on Rowhani’s remarks:
“It makes no difference for us which of the two parties wins the elections,” Iran’s top national security official Hassan Rowhani said in an interview on state television.
“We have not seen any good coming from the Democrats, so we won’t be happy if the Democrats win,” he said.
“Also we should not forget that most sanctions and economic pressures were imposed on Iran during Clinton’s administration,” Rowhani added, referring to former president Bill Clinton.
Kerry or Bush, makes no difference to us: Iran

“We do not desire to see Democrats take over,” Rowhani said when asked whether Iran was supporting Democratic Sen. John Kerry against Bush.
Newsday The head of Iran’s security council said Tuesday that the re-election of President Bush was in Tehran’s best interests, despite the administration’s axis of evil label, accusations that Iran harbors al-Qaida terrorists and threats of sanctions over the country’s nuclear ambitions.

Those are all the same article, it looks like.
Anyway, it’s interesting that he says that it doesn’t matter what party will win, but then goes on to say that they’ll be better off if Bush wins. He sort of contradicts himself.
