Nightline just said 42% Kerry, 41% Bush, 14% a tie.
No idea what the other 2% thought, probably Nader-ites a’stirring up trouble as they are wont to do.

I believe if he names names, he’ll be breaking the forum’s rules. Seems to me that these debate threads get Bricker more worked up than we otherwise see him :).
I have a hard time choosing a winner in the debate. Obviously Bush said more crap that I disagreed with, but Kerry’s no angel in my eyes, either; I would love to have an anti-death-penalty, pro-gay-rights, anti-war candidate for whom i could realistically cast my ballot.

No, what did he say?
Guess they aren’t too reasonable if they took 1:1 on Kerry. Go lock it in at Tradesports and put it in your private savings retirement account!
I disagree. We have 22 hard drives that have already been partitioned, and I fully support performing further partitions on them. We have hundreds of partitions that can be performed without having to partition the drives of any more computers.
And can we please, for the love of God, stop quoting Internet polls? I mean, if you want to ask your Magic 8 ball whether Kerry won the debate, I’d love to hear what response you get–at least there’s some chance that your Magic 8 ball is really magic.
Daniel
True. Because these threads, more than anything else, exemplify the SDMB-Lefty-Groupthink Phenom. Page after page of posters smugly assuring each other that their worldview is correct, and that any other view is unthinkable.

And you take Kerry’s word for that?
From This cite.
Methinks Kerry came up with his 56 number by including any bill in which he offered a modification or amendment or otherwise had some role in. The key is whether he was the lead sponsor on them (whether he introduced them).
Bush was right, and Kerry was spinning.
Well, at least the Naderites are going to have a bit more trouble mucking about in Pennsylvania. Nader has been tossed off the ballot. The judge who made the decision had some rather unflattering things to say about the signature-collection effort (what’s the opposite of “hyperbole?” “Hypobole?” OK, I’ll just stick with “understatement”).
Well, technically, they took the bet when it was “Bush v. Anybody” at 1:1. No one knew it would shake out to be Kerry.
There’s a thread in the pit, by duffer, in which he claims Edwards is comparing Kerry to Jesus.
If I read it, based on similar threads by him, I know it’d piss me off with its absurd inaccuracies.
I’ve therefore not read it.
If these threads are no more than lefty groupthink, why do you trouble yourself with them?

We ARE still in Great Debates. Hentor, cool it. That goes for the rest of you too; things have been a bit heated in this thread. Ease off.

Well, I’m off to bed, visions of George Stephanopoulos dancing in my head.
And I finally finished ‘This House’, the last song of I DO! I DO!, on the soundtrack of my mind.
It’s been real. Let’s do this again in four years!!
Why is that "key?’ Who gives a crap?
This election is about Bush, not Kerry. Kerry has only one requirement he must fulfill and that is to not be Bush. He has succeeded at that and thus has earned my vote.
I would literally vote for an egg salad sandwich over Bush, so attacking Kerry is a waste of time as far as I’m concerned.
I just want to point out that a 35-year-old egg salad sandwich is gonna be awfully stinky.
That said, there’s plenty of voters who AREN’T willing to vote for chicken butt protein over the current POTUS; for them, they need to understand the critiques of Kerry.

I think that this was an attempt at humor on Mr. Smiley’s part.
I apologize - I took your slight of the northeastern accent personally. I am also not sure now if you are saying that Kerry has gone to talking like a hick, which I don’t think anyone would claim.
You should realize, however, that Southies in Boston, people from the Northeast Kingdom in Vermont, those east of the river in Connecticut, all have some degree or another of the “idear” in their speech, but are not pretentious Yalies.
My mom has a very nice “sofer” in the living room. She’s never been to “Palmer,” Italy.
On the other hand, some people born in New Haven, who ended up going to Yale, say “ve-HIC-les” and “nukyuler.” Perhaps that was what you meant by a long way to talking like a hick.
Sam, do you have a cite that doesn’t come directly from the RNC, as noted on the Noticias site ?
They might even be correct but I’m sure as heck not willing to take the RNC’s word for it, ya know?
Bush was wrong, but Kerry was spinning. He has put forth that many bills of his own - not amendments to others that you speculate (if those were counted, there would be many more) but a number of the bills (I don’t recall exactly how many) were resolutions for things like the Senate to recognize certain individuals or express opposition to other things.
That said, I find those who minimize his work in the Senate to be vastly understating the importance of the work he did, which has oft been cited here, on things like Iran-Contra, BCCI, Viet Nam MIA and reconcilliation issues.
You’ve turned me on to the place.
Isn’t that what Kerry said?
