Just Another Pound of Flesh…
As I understand it, if you are between 50 & 55 yrs. old, Bend Over, You are going to have to Sacrifice! Substantially! Retirement will be unaffordable. Bush has no problem backstabbing his own generation. He must have so much pent-up gilt it has manifested in this leticious piece of crap!
Look, if I was the Big Cheese and I wanted to acquiesce to my constituants I would deduct $1, from everybody on the Public Dole in anyway, shape or form. Why penalize productive citizens? All the Sponges are going to receive $1 less every month. That’s better than $100 less every month from the 50-55 age group. I don’t want to hear, “Only the Children will suffer” These poor victims suffer everyday because of their parent (in some cases parents). So don’t go there!
Everyone is on the public dole. k-12 costs the gov $8830, by the time you graduate high school you’ve collected $114790 in welfare. If you go to college for a 4 year degree that is another $40,000 or so.
Point is, most people have no idea where tax money goes. If you want to know where it all goes.
Education (k-12 & college) $850 billion
healthcare $800 billion
Military $400 billion
Social Security $500 billion
Interest on the national debt $320 billion
Justice System $170 billion
3 trillion dollars, about 80-90% of tax money goes to those 6 things.
How will bush making 1k a year private bankrupt SS? He passed the drug benefit, won’t that offset some of the potential losses of those just entering SS?
Do you have a link for this? I seem to recall Bush stating repeatedly in his SOTA and in the in his subsequent SS roadshow that “nothing” would change for those 50 years and older.
I missed anything recent that says differently, so again, a link would be appreciated.

WASHINGTON (AP) – Social Security benefits promised to workers 55 and older would remain unchanged under President Bush’s call for voluntary personal accounts for younger Americans, Republican congressional officials said Wednesday, citing information provided by the administration.
And you are right that, according to information provided by Administration officials, the Bush plan for modifying Social Security would not affect anybody born before 1950. Anybody currently 55 or older will have the same SS options that current retirees do.

Mr. Roboto:Look, if I was the Big Cheese and I wanted to acquiesce to my constituants I would deduct $1, from everybody on the Public Dole in anyway, shape or form. Why penalize productive citizens? All the Sponges are going to receive $1 less every month.
Have you run the numbers on that little plan, though? Near as I can figure, in late 2001 there were about 2 million families nationwide receiving TANF assistance (“welfare”). Take $1/month away from their benefits, or $12 per year, and you have an annual savings of about $24 million. My immediate reaction is… whoop-de-do.
Considering that the annual SS shortfall, when the system “goes broke” or starts having to pay out in benefits more than it receives in taxes, will get up in the tens of billions of dollars, it doesn’t look as though your scheme would really accomplish much. $24 million a year would be what, one-tenth or one-twentieth of one percent of the funding gap? It probably wouldn’t even be worth the legislative effort it would take to pass your proposed measure.
