What exactly is respectful about equating a personal belief with organized crime?
There is no “great debate” to be had here. I thought about it and what possible cites could anyone offer that would be conclusive?
OR’s history of bad stuff? Plenty. And I’m not arguing that point.
OR’s history of good stuff? A fair share IMO. Hard to argue that point.
On balance more BAD than GOOD? Yeah, but not in today’s terms… as the original OP in IMHO was framing. But everyone rushes to try and convict OR based on centuries of history.

Today terms nothing. In your own mind, you have already equaled OR with good, and OC with bad. Now that people have said something different from that, you have begun to ridicule people, accused others of the same, and proposed odd, abstract systems of standards.
Also, if everyone in thread is interpreting your offer of a nightie differently then you would like, and thus getting off topic, it’s your own damn fault. If you wanted people to stick with the OP, you should have put more time into it, and not simply make it a link to a lingerie page.

You keep on using the word OP. It does not mean what you think it does. The OP is the Original Post of the thread, not the one that set you off. You keep asking people to read the OP, or two read the OP from the thread, when in fact what you should be saying is “read a post which ticked me off.” What you are actually saying sounds like, depending on how sloppy your writing is, either, “My OP explains everything”, or “The OP I am linking to explains everything" True, everyone understands what you mean, but that does matter. In either case, Anaamika’s post is #16, not #1. Oh, and:

My point is: Anaamika brought up an opinion in Great Debates–one that’s debatable, of course (subjective opinion usually is). You could have argued calmly and reasonably with her, but first you hijacked the thread in GD and then started the Pitting here.
If you want to argue her point, go ahead–you guys can hash it out in Great Debates. But all this bitterness and sarcasm is not helping your case.
WRT the post in IMHO, where this entire mess got started, I understood the OP to be framing the question in the present. i.e. What are your thoughts on faith and what is putting you off a formal belief system? Is it the organized religion sturcture?
First, Do you agree that the time frame of reference is in the now? If not we won’t agree on anything past this statement.
Second, Do you consider the following to be a fair comparisson:
If you asked me what I think about Germans, I could tell you that I hate the fuckers because they were largely responsible for systematically killing members of my family on both my father’s and my mother’s side for the sole reason that they were Jews. OR, I could say that some Germans (Nazis) were responsible for murdering members of my family but I hold no personal grudge against the entire nation or people.

My goodness, my very first Pit thread, and like Jo with her very first book, compliments are dispersed amongst the insults. And I’m not even here. I wish I’d lost my Pit virginity in a more dramatic way but this will have to do.
First of all. I most certainly will not apologize for what I said in IMHO, nor back down. The OP asked for people’s opinions. I believe the question was something along the lines of “what do you feel about organized religion”? I said, Organized religion is like organized crime to me.
Well, I think it is. I am most certainly not going to back down from something I believe. I didn’t say religion was horrible, nor did I say that a belief in god was something horrible. However, I’m not going to back up what I said, either. That’s my choice. If I wanted to, I could go in GD but other people make the point much better than me and I am not the greatest debater in the world. However, I will say this - the RCC which is defended vehemently sometime has done a great deal of damage in my birth country of India. I don’t venerate it, or revere it, and don’t intend to say anything but my true opinion. Again, I’m not a great debater so I don’t go in those kinds of threads much.

I never accused religious organizations of all the evil in the world, as **Quicksilver ** seems to be laying at my feet. I said, “Organized religion is worse than organized crime”, and that’s all I said. So please stop! putting words in my mouth. FTR, I still do believe that OR’s bad outweighs the good even in today’s day and age.
