buttons on men's suits

…i read in one of cecil’s columns about the ‘buttons on men’s suits’…it alluded to the situation about fred the great having buttons put on the suits so the men wouldn’t wipe their faces on their sleeves…great

…what i would like to know is…does the number of buttons on a men’s suit sleeve have anything to do with the value of the suit…i was told once that the more the buttons, the better the suit…just wanted to know if there is any truth in this as i have an ongoing debate with one son and no proof…if you can provide any insight into this question it would be sincerely appreciated…

And the column is, Why do men’s suits have buttons on the sleeves?

No idea what the answer to your question is, but every time I see those useless, vestigial buttons on a men’s suit cuff, I think of what some comedienne said (Paula Poundstone? Elayne Boosler?): “If men really run the world–why can’t they stop wearing ties?”

Another vestigial garment.

Think about it. If you were the president of Sleaze Brothers Suitery, would you have a comapny rule forbidding the placing of more than one button per sleeve on the suits your company made?
