There were a bunch of pictures of various things. Boobs only made an appearance in two or three images. I, too, would have preferred a text-only link with a warning—which i believe is within the rules—to removing the link altogether.
As someone who’s actually interested in Burning Man (although too intimidated to do it with a toddler), I’d like to see the pics as well. SandyHook, you can repost the address, just stick an extra space or two in there so it won’t be clickable, and it will be within board rules.
I’m glad you had a good time. I’ve done other festivals in other parts of the country and “It was probably the most amazing, entertaining, mind boggling, bizarre, inspiring, unbelievable, no way to describe, gotta go back, weeks of my life.” just about sums it up.
Was this your first festival? What/who brought you there?
I think it would be fun to see the man burninating in the desert.
Can you re-post a disabled link?

Copy and paste the address part and gaze away at the wonder that is Burning Man.
Looks like great fun, SandyHook, and your photo album is a blast. I love the idea of costumes as mobile art- what was your favorite?
We want very badly to go at some point, been talking about perhaps next year. It’s been fun the last couple days watching all the RV’s and busses and trailers and trucks pulling back into town covered in Playa dust and towing bizarre sculptures and hundreds of bicycles. Actually spoken by myself in the Winco parking lot yesterday: “It appears to be a giant slingshot with a…laser?”
Holp crap! The 60’s called. It wants itself back.
Thanks for this thread Sandy. I have always wanted to go to Burning Man. I went camping out in the Black Rock Desert about two months ago. What a blast it must have been to see it so teeming with life, art and free spirited craziness. I hope it stays the same and doesn’t get commercialized and I hope to go someday. And I hope dnooman comes back and apologizes for leaving his computer unattended allowing some self righteous prick to post under his screen name.
I don’t understand the hate here. It’s a big party for artsy-hippy types. How the hell is that offensive?
SandyHook I don’t suppose you saw any movies while you were there?

Actually there were movies, or something, showing. I didn’t stop to watch but they had their following.
I thought cameras were frowned upon at BM, or maybe it was the media since I’ve seen pics from previous BMs.
I bet a guy could clean up with a tanker of water and a “Shower - $1” sign.
Sandy, what advice would you give to people who plan on going in the future? Bring a tent a trailer a bike, bikini briefs, what? What about food, bring it or get it there?
I think, I hope that the whole idea was anti commercialization. Many people could think of ways to profit but I thought the whole idea was that they don’t.
It was supposed to be a joke, obviously not a very good one.
I bet you could still give away a bunch of free showers.
Yep.
In fact, with some limited exceptions, cash transactions are specifically forbidden at the festival.
There were several public, and I mean public, showers. But you can’t charge for them or anything else. The only things for sale at Burning Man are ice and some coffee/water/juice drinks at Center Camp. Center Camp is run by Burning Man and the profits from the sales go to the local schools.
Skip while you are goose stepping* through the thread could you fix the title? It hurts.
*Not a comment on the quality of the modding. Mods are required by law to goose step when in an official capacity.
You really, really, really need some shelter. The wind and dust can be overwhelming. I took a 5th wheel which was wonderful. We could go back to it during the day, turn on the AC and have lunch and a short nap. Of course today is the day I have to get busy cleaning up the inside, it’ll be a long job.
Almost anyone will put you up for a while during the day if the heat and dust get too bad.
You have to bring everything yourself. Other than ice and some limited drinks there is NOTHING for sale. The nearest towns are really small (maybe 500 between them). As the speed limit at the burn is 5mph it takes almost an hour to make the 9 miles to Gerlach and they charge you a $20 fee if you want to get back in.
FTR, I should’ve added a smilie – my comment wasn’t hostile, only bemused. Heck, looking at those pictures was like looking into my own personal pensieve.
How about a Burning Man 2008? I live about 4 hours away and would be willing to offer my place as a staging area. I have a guest house that will comfortably sleep four and can accommodate another three in the main house. More if you are willing to get close. I mean thats all I have beds for, but if you are willing to sleep on the floor or have a trailer or camper many more will fit. I live on a five acre lot. Of course it will take about a year to talk my wife into it, she still has no idea what the Dope is. But if interested let me know. Here, PM or E-mail.
